Well finally she makes an appearence and speaks in public. I admit its wierd to see a young girl with a purple heart on her uniform.

Here I go:
I cant myself understand how she is considered to be a "hero" when we still have no clue how she reacted during this "ambush". For all we know she couldve hid crying behind people as they got shot. Now I dont believe this happened either but lets be realistic. She wasnt out there with a 60 in her hand like Rambo. of course it takes a certain amount of courage to join in the first place, but not as much if all you expect to do is earn money for college. She didnt join during the conflict. This is a happy story and I dont expect the media to adress the issues of what exactly happened (how did she conduct herself during the attack?). I dont know anymore...

Where did this Lynch backlash come from? And I'm not talking about the "staging" of her rescue.

I'm talking about what wadd siad. Lots of people are trying to downplay her role in all this and her courage.

I think she went through a horrible ordeal and came out alive and well. I also think it's perfectly OK for us to call her and all the other armed forces heros for protecting us in peace and war time.

So just because she didn't sneak up on an Iraqi batallion and kill them all single handedly she's not a hero? No one said she was supposed to be Rambo. She knew the risks of combat and did her job.

And seriously Johnee. How could you turn a thread who's title suggests a discussion on her happy return to home into a rant about how this woman isn't a real hero?

I think Limbaugh said it best when he referred to Pt. Lynch's critics as "The 2 inch crowd."

You don't have to be "Rambo" to be a hero. She signed up, she went, she served and she faced one of the hardest challenges an active combat soldier can face. The fact that she did this and I haven't makes her more of a damn hero than I ever will be.

Lots of people are trying to downplay her role in all this and her courage.

Thats probally because nobody has any idea what her role was, or if she conducted herself with any courage. All I'm saying is that she couldve been pissing her pants and crying which isnt exactly courageous. I'm the last person to shit on what soldiers do and what they go through, but there are heroes and there are heroes. As a generalization some girl that survives an enemy attack will always be considered a hero, nomatter what she did during the event. And of course its a happy story, so nobody just looks to bring these things up.

Johnee Johnee Johnee...your questions disappoint me. You note that she was wearing a purple heart, and then you wonder if she should be called a hero?! Rambo's not real. Private Lynch is. As for wondering if the truth will ever come out, it will. People died in that attack, and it is being/will be thoroughly investigated. Everyone who went over there and performed their duty the best they could is a hero. Do not doubt that. Let's also not forget those who are still over there, all heroes. Welcome home Private Lynch!

I wish they would just leave her alone.
One thing that bothers me about this story is the thought that years in the future, whenever she marries, has a kid, gets a parking ticket, whatever, it's gonna be in the paper.

I don't want to see the movie and I don't want to read the book.
She's not responsible for the erroneous bullshit that was leaked after her capture.
By the way, she was also awarded the Bronze Star and the POW Medal.
