So a strange charge showed up on my bank statement. Now, I'm the first to admit that I have been known to use the old debit card to purchase things online, memberships to certain "exclusive" sites, shall we say. But I'm always very careful and check my statement periodically to ensure that my # isn't being used by other folks. So now I got bit in the ass. I just checked my shizz and a charge showed up that I did not incur. It's for some kind of online email site or somesuch nonsense, whatever it is, it's something I would never use.
I go to the site and it looks legit, so I do a little research on it. Now here's the kicker. This website's big claim to fame is that they have some REVOLUTIONARY SYSTEM that VIRTUALLY ELIMINATES internet fraud!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! I think Ron Popeil wrote the code for the program. Oh man. If you can't laugh at that, what can you laugh at?

BLAKJEEZIS - That's not funny - even when it happens to someone else. If on the other hand the site was like "goatlovers.com" and your wife opened the bill, that would be hysterical.

These fraudulent charges are popping up w/increasing frequency. PC world reported recently that the scam now is to put the fraudulent charge on your phone bill not the charge/debit card.

Lots of really creepy and unscrupulous people on the internet. Of course, they're present in real life too, but the internet created new opporunity for criminals.

I've been told that its better to use a credit card than a debit card when ordering things over the internet. The reason for this is that most credit cards have better fraud protection than most bank accounts, and you're less likely to have to take the hit if some unauthorized purchases are made with your card.

I have no facts to back this up, so I welcome the opinion of anyone who knows better.
