View Full Version : How Many Chances Will The Guys From The State Get?

From The State to, Viva Variety to, Reno 911. How many chances will these people get to make bad parody shows?
I think one of them has naked pics of a big time hollywood exec. And how come Johnny Bluejeans isnt in this one? He's the only funny one.
I will put money on how bad this Reno 911! is going to be.

Well one of them (Michael Ian Black) made it (sort of), and I guess that's all the encouragement they need.

Yea, I LOVE these guys, but this is gonna be crap.
The State should never have gone off the air. It was brilliant. Then they had that ONE special on CBS. I was hoping that meant they were on their way there, but it obviously didn't.
I liked viva Variety too! But it was a weird show.
Now this. I mean, you KNOW that any of their friends who aren't cast members will most likly be revolving extras. But the concept seems kinda strange. I will watch, but have my doubts as well.

The State was fucking brilliant. Viva Variety had its moments. I'll give Reno 911 a shot.
And Wet, Hot, American Summer was funny, too.

I was not aware of that one. Is it a show or movie? How can I see it?

Let me get this straight, The State was a great show, but Viva Variety was awful. The only funny person was Johny BlueJeans, and Fez from That 70's Show stole his act.
<center><img border=2 src="http://members.aol.com/fezwhatleyfan/rfspidersig"></center><br><font color=white>
It was a movie. Your best bet is trying to rent it since I've only seen it on HBO or Showtime or Starz or whatever. Its very good, but be warned that Jeanene Garofalo and Molly Shannon are in it.

Who said "Viva Variety" was awful? Funny skits, good bands...good times. Sadly, I still quote the "Little Johnny Jazz Player" sketch....
And as long as it's not "I'm With Busey", "Battle Bots" or "Let's Bowl!", I like giving Comedy Central shows a shot. "The State" people haven't let me down yet. Whereas PanterA has done nothing but let me down again and again. Fuck PanterA in the ear. Except when he makes me sig pics.

Sorry but I really thought Viva Variety was bad.
The accents were distracting.
The snicker commercials were in NO WAY funny either.

Only if you're an idiot. The latter was hilarious and astounding, the former was a dog turd in a cat food dish.
As far as chances for the cast of 'The State', I say give 'em as many as they fuckin' want. They earned it.
*Edit*
Johny Bluejeans is hilarious on I love the 80's
He's really not that funny. For example, I can't think of anything right now 'cause I'm half a paulsy, but let's just say one of the commercials VH-1 puts on the show is for "LOG" from Ren and Stimpy. This guys groundbreaking, Earth-shattering, hilarious comedy is to repeat the tagline in a monotonous voice.
"It's better than bad . . . it's good."
That's his contribution. Yep, real funny. Look up Ken Marino, he might be able to write something funny for ya.

I was thinking of Matt Walsh who (along with Amy Poehler) was part of Upright Citizens Brigade.

Here's an idea, instead of ruining the fine State name why don't they just reform the group to make one more Sketch comedy run under a different name on Comedy Central? This Reno 911 is going to fail for the same reason Viva Variety failed, Ron and Fez aren't in first place and Vos is destined to be an also-ran in the Last Comic Standing show, Americans as a whole don't get humor when it's at it's funniest. Fucking sad when you think about it.

Man, I'm SURE they wanted to do that before anything else. I would bet the execs wanted a different kind of show.

"Upright Citizens Brigade" with "The State"
I liked both of them. UCB still runs a comedy troop/club in the NYC.
That's all.

I really liked the State. Viva Variety for the most part sucked. I hope that Reno911 will work out. Comedy Central needs a hit. they've become like fox. totally relying on their only hit, an edgy animated series.

"Upright Citizens Brigade" was a good show. I still occasionally do the "Ass Penny" sketch with friends.
"I'm With Busey",
How can you NOT like this show?

Because it's really gay and fake and awful and not funny and Stalin would love it and it keyed my car and it hates brown people and it's the secret-gay version of "The Anna Nicole Smith Show"?

UCB still runs a comedy troop/club in the NYC.
They had that before the TV show. Horatio Sanz was a founding member of UCB. Some people have said that LA has the Groundlings, Chicago has Second City, and NY has the UCB.
Johny Bluejeans is hilarious on I love the 80's
The best was when he was talking about the hippie revival in the late 80s.
"It was a chance for horny guys to have sex with women who genuinely believed in the cause."
I'm with Busey has its moments. The one where he goes on a date and Gary is stalking them is hilarious. Maybe that's because Gary Busey has the perfect crazy eyes for a stalker.
I was pleasantly surprised with Reno 911. I had to give it a chance because it was the State, but it was pretty good.
