for the past 24 hours my mouse has ceased to work, i have been working on my comp using nothing but the keyboard. this thread is meant to gain fake sympathy and to let everyone know that the board can be navigated without a mouse, although it is a hell of a lot easier. ok thank you, that is all.

I know how you feel. I went to Virginia to visit my cousin once and I wanted to use the computer. But the mouse wasn't working. It was a bitch using the computer, going on line and stuff that I gave up. How did people use computers without mouses? Or have computers always had mouses.

Back then, the keyboard did everything you needed. You ran a program by typing it in DOS. Or if you were really saucy, maybe you had one o' them cool menu programs to make shortcuts to everything with a single letter.... those were the days....

about your mouse, have you tried unplugging, and re-plugging and re-installing the drivers?

But seriously, clean it out. I mean if it stopped working completely, it may be broken. But I always clean the rolling contacts in my mouse like every month of so. Even though I keep the area around my comp failr clean I still find build up of shit on them.

And I just took my grandmother's mouse apart to check inside. Dust and hair does build up in there.

All the crap that builds up on the rollers is the price we gotta pay for using an ball mouse. I clean mine out every few weeks, or when the mouse starts being a bitch about where I wanna move the cursor.

SatCam may be onto something... Funny though, it doesn't sound like you are in a hurry to fix it or did you already. If you De1ete the device from device manager and reboot, it will re-discover it and reload the driver. i had to do this once to recover the mouse. That was on a Windows OS.

Probably the best investment I've made with regards to mice is to get an optical mouse. Instead of the mouse ball it has a red sensor that senses the mouse pointers location on the screen. It's much more accurate and I've never had to clean it. I've had this mouse over two years now without any real problems.

I have the Microsoft Mouse with Intellieye, but there are other companies like Logitech that make optical mice as well. They cost pretty much the same as regular mice and work really well.

i always thought the optical mouse was kool, but felt that it took the fun outta havin a mouse that you could take apart. i used to just take the ball outta the mouse and throw it at things. damn the balls for a mouse are heavy.
