I'm a faithful listener and I'm getting more and more disappointed with what I hear . The boys are still brilliant but the current cast of toadies is awful and the show has lots its edge. Kenny Allen, Iris, Andre...funny. Chicks getting tattoos?...puleeeeze.

No, really. I know I'm not alone. R&F are mailing it in right now. Even at that, there is no better show in this corner of the universe. But it used to be better.

As tough as it is to say I'm going to have to agree with traderj to some extent. I still enjoy the show but it just doesnt seem to be as good or as funny as it was. Hopefully it's only because it takes a while for everyone to get used to hearing the new characters.

Why did the show stop being funny?
The boys are brilliant, but their show is unfunny? So in what way are they brilliant? They are the heart of the show, they are the ones that "make jokes". If you cant still hear them through whatever else is going on, youve never really heard them at all. I hope you get it soon, cause if you dont, youll be missing out.

The show doesn't have the spark it once had. The boys don't seem to write bits anymore. The focus is on the motley crew in the studio... and that's draggin' things down, imo.

It's one thing to discuss current events, it's another to go on about them ad nauseum. I think Ron forgets sometimes that he's not working for NPR.

Main reasons:
1. Most of the callers are not used to the type of great humor they had in NY, thats why there are no comedy pyramids just dumb story contests
2. The staff that we all love is gone. Not just that Billy, and Hawk, and Rory are gone...but they have been replaced by such dry unfunny unwitty no personality morons.
3. The show has lost all of its unique qualities. No fezatorials? No Kenny Allen, Andrea, Iris? No Jobber, No Foul Mouth Elm? No Crack Babies? No Pants Puppets? Its all gone!

I think the show is still hilarious. You guys should cut the boys some slack. They're working a retarded schedule (11AM-12PM, and 7PM-11PM), with an equally retarded staff. They are constantly being asked to meet with sales people and sponsors. Ron is still living in a hotel, Fez just moved in to a brand new house and is still unpacking. They have very little free time which means no time for writing bits. Blaming the DC callers makes you sound like a bitter ex-girlfriend.

Like I already said, I don't think the show is bad. You obviously listen for different reasons than I do. If you like the prepared bits that they used to do, you're just going to have wait until they have the time to prepare them. I just think you should have some patience, they are brilliant but they are also human and have alot of off-air stuff to deal with. I don't think they need any encouragement to make the show better, they just need a better schedule and a better staff. I agree that alot of the callers suck, but I thought some of the NY callers sucked too, I listen because I think Ron and Fez are funny, not their callers.

The show is not funny because I can't hear it from N.Y anymore. Obviously the political stuff has to do with what market they are in. Ron and Fez have always been good company men and are just doing what they are told.

We can blame some stuff on the callers, but the STAFF really brings it down. HALF of the NY comedy was literally the STAFF. Ron and Fez had such a great staff in NY, now they have a bunch of dickwadds with no detication to the show. Although we cant blame El Jefe and those guys for being there in the first place... that's WJFK's fault.

[Teacher elbowing in, seperating the crowd, dusting off self...]
Ok, let's all remember a couple of things here for a second before we proceed.
1. We're talking about a Radio Show. A radio show many are passionate about, but it remains what it is. Lives are not at stake; tanks aren't rolling down the street, at least not yet, so perhaps, a little perspective...
2. The Move:
You guys should cut the boys some slack. They're working a retarded schedule (11AM-12PM, and 7PM-11PM), with an equally retarded staff. They are constantly being asked to meet with sales people and sponsors. Ron is still living in a hotel, Fez just moved in to a brand new house and is still unpacking. They have very little free time which means no time for writing bits.
Whoever wrote the above is either very smart, or has worked in radio, or both.
Add to the above, possibly, if not definately for R+F...
3. Displacement of family; loss of contact with friends. Maybe new schools. This is the norm in radio. Expect travel. Don't get used to the city. Not easy when it's New York.
4. Brand new studio. I just got back from the piddly station I work for and I sit in front of a 24 channel mixer; two different computer systems; one for Programming and one for Production/Editing; two easels with copy to be read, and one microphone.
And it's all gotta work 100%. It took me a month just to get used to recording my voice, much less working on the Quality of it. Just to do some yadda yadda voice-overs for $12.11 an hour.
Now multiply that times I don't know...10?...100?, make it work all the time, every time, and do it LIVE.
Then displace it ALL; new equipment, new computer software for the calls maybe, a new 'clock' meaning schedule of when spots are done, new advertisers, new names, new callers, new station, new lead-in show...
...and the meetings mentioned above; are both horrific, and, I'm pretty sure, often. Listen to why a product you don't give a shit about is so great in a 2 hour Powerpoint Presentation. That's fucking Death by Meeting.
...oh and the GM and PD wanna see you to talk about the show, and what They expect and what They want, and what They like and dislike. Maybe daily.
...oh and the promo department has never met you guys! we so have so many great ideas on how to image the show! We're gonna make this Great! Super! Thaks for Asking! Death by Enthusiasm.
...oh and the engineer has just changed the studio. Again. Now the three monitors you need to work are in different spots. And this calling system may have been state-of-the-art in 1960, but who knows? Dont worry guys, you'll pick it up real quick!
...and while you're out of the studio all of the setting that worked for you on the Computers, Phone Banks, Headphones, and Mics are now changed by whoever last used the studio.
...and try to book good guests; because the Hollywood crowd just Loves to stop by suburban-wherever-they-are. As opposed to being smack dab in the middle of The City.
I have a feeling that a Month ago; the Quality of the Comedy of the Ron and Fez show was priority, oh, i'll say...15.
I have a feeling that as of today, the priority has made the amazing leap to maybe one of the Top Five Things to get done on the show. After all of the above has been taken care of. And it HAS to be taken care of by them, and whoever else they can get around them.
This is all conjecture. I may be 100% dead wrong.
But Ron and Fez are spinning a lot of plates. One of them says 'quality'. others say 'callers' 'phone levels' 'family' 'wanna-be Rory's with SUPER ideas for the Show!' 'salespeople' 'promo people' 'the suits' 'the fcc' 'arbitrons' 'show content' 'who from the old crew got screwed'....ad nauseum etc. et al...
Some plates get wobbly so that others that DEMAND attention, whether you want to give it to them or Not, get it, and Demand it. Now.
Give the Boys Credit for what we don't see.
Fire Away.

while there are many factors that make the show less funny, lets not say unfunny cause it is still funny, maybe one bigger one is the boys arent happy. they loved it in NY, they loved the coworkers, they loved to listeners, they were everyone's friend. Then they were forced to leave all of that to go to a place they didnt know after doin 99 million things that they asked them to do in NY and gettin jerked around for months. Id be a little pissed and bitter too if my company did that too me, and might be slightly less willing to accomadate. Point being, if you want the show to be at its peak, it has to be done in and on radio in NY.

Bottom line, its hard to tell who sucks more, El Jeffe or the callers. Ron and Fez are still great but before the callers fed off them and they fed off the callers. The NY callers had attitude. They knew timing. Now I cant wait till they hang up the phone. El Jeffe is so dull, he could be a caller.

ahhhh....the bitter panty-twisters are coming out of the woodwork...
The show is still fucking hysterical, but because there are different people behind the scenes and because the same 12 people no longer call every hour, suddenly it's no longer as funny as it was.
Christ. I swear that some of you would have only been happy if Ron and Fez were either out of work when the switch at WNEW happened, or had walked out with "the old crew," and be out of work now. Instead of being happy that they had WJFK as a liferaft, you will create issues where there are none.
Bottom line...it's the RON and FEZ show...if they are funny, the show is funny. DC will give them greater numbers (and more success) than they have ever had.

The show has never recovered after the "Sex for Sam" debacle. The show (in my opinion) has been on a steady decline since then. Take a second and compare last year's product (at this time) to the one we have today, the difference is black and white. The show is a mere shell of what it once was. With that said, I firmly believe that this is ENTIRELY due to ALL the unfortunate circumstances (see MiketheTeacher's post above) that have happened to Ron and Fez in the past year. They are only human and their spirits and ego's have to hurt...I mean come on, (sorry D.C) they were #1 in their time slot, in the #1 market, their "lead-in" show was just the hottest thing to hit radio since early Howard Stern, broadcasting in the middle of the greatest city in the world....now look where they are.....take a GOOD, HARD look. I think Fez is great and Ron Bennington is comedically outstanding but I fear the show will never be nearly as good as it was last summer.

I remember when I used to listen to OnA. After I found RnF, I never cared about missing OnA shows. So I basically listened to and have all of the RnF shows archived. I think they are the funniest duo I have ever heard on the radio. I still think they are funny. Though I must admit I pretty much turn it off the second that anyone other than RnF talk now. If I miss the shows nowadays, I immediately download the show myself the next day. But when I listen, I always fast forward once anyone other than RnF are talking. In my opinion, that jefe guy and the other one are extremely bad on air :(
Its is my deep seeded hatred and utter contempt for human life that gets me through each day

Am I the only one who thought last Wednesday's show, the one with Cigar Sid's parody song, was one of the funniest shows in a long time? I was driving while I was listening, and I literally pulled the car over twice because I was laughing so hard I thought I was going to get into an accident.
So many people seem ready to write the show off. That, I think, is a huge mistake. The show is in transition right now. R&F are adjusting to a new location, the loss of their old staff, developing a new staff, finding the proper roles for the existing staff, and a taxing new schedule. Sure the callers aren't as good, and they haven't found any local fans who make for good radio, with the exception of Perrynoid (yeah, I know I'll catch hell for that, but now that he's not loaded on the air, his recent appearances have been pretty good. Also, the man is definitely musically talented, and his ability to turn around a parody song in a matter of hours is an asset to the show) As the fan base grows, they'll find their great power callers and in-studio guests. The callers and guests are going to look horrible when compared to the shows when it was #1 in its time slot in NY. Hopefully as the fan base widens and the callers improve, the comedy pyramids and other bits will be re-introduced.
There's also seems to be this mentality that all of the NY callers were comedy gold. This is just untrue. There were a bunch of shitty callers in NY as well.
If you're not happy with the show right now, give it some time. Ron & Fez are the two funniest guys on radio right now. They'll adjust, and the show will be back huge.
Personally, I think the show is still great. Listen to last Wednesday's show for proof.

Just for clarification...is it because of the "politics", which have been pretty much relegated to the 11 AM hour? Or because you DISAGREE with them? Because nine times out of ten, they're not really making "points", they're usually just making fun of whatever is gong on at the moment. That's kinda the way of radio shows...you talk about current events.
Eh, fuck it. You can have all the El Jefe's you want. As long as Ron & Fez themselves are on somewhere, I'm set. Those two are why I started listening in the first place, and they're the reasons I still listen.
When the hell did this become the "Callers & Staff show featuring R&F"?

This is all nonsense, the show hasn't been the same since way before Jeffe or any of the other reasons everyone is giving. Compare a week of last summer's shows to anything 2003 and you'll agree....it's not the same, that's it. A lot has happened, it sucks and there is nothing we can do about it.

When Producehers site stopped posting shows in May, I wasn't able to hear the show until last week thanks to Steels. I did read the board during those 2 months and got the impression the show went down the toilet.
I have to say that after listening the past week, the show isn't what it was in NY, but I still laughed my ass off. The repartee is still there between Ron & Fez and THAT's why I listen to them.

It has come to my attention that most of us, I included, are taking the wrong approach with our beloved radio show. Instead of bleating lot a bunch of goats that the show isnt as good as when it was here, why dont we help instead of hinder. By us bashing the show, we are hurting the morale of Ron and Fez who read this board and whoever is on the show. If the show goes down we lose it foreever. This board was created to Augment the show, to be part of it and enhance it. To be part of it. Lets be part of it. Instead of complaining about the callers, why dont we call? Represent the board. Make callers want to be on the board. Make board members want to call. This would result in more fans and help the boys immensly.
I am quoting my previous post on a different thread since it doesnt seem to be read there. By the way, whoever thinks the show isnt suffering is fooling themselves. It is still great and the boys are pulling their load. But maybe we arent.

When I say I place partial blame on them, I say that in the sense that ultimately it's R&F's show. Thus, any decline in quality is, in a sense (at least), partially THEIR fault. There is no simple answer such as "Oh, it's El Jefe who's bringing the show down."
Now, other stuff:
Just for clarification...is it because of the "politics", which have been pretty much relegated to the 11 AM hour?
They've been relegated to the 11 AM hour now that the 11 AM hour exists.
Before that, they did a good 2 or 3 hours of political stuff a week, AT LEAST. But yes, I submit, much (but not all) of the political commentary has been removed to 11 AM.
It's not just the politics, but that's part of it. Say whatever you want about change, that's fine, but I personally am just not that interested in some of the stuff they've been doing lately. Eh, stuff like tattoo shows don't interest me.
Or because you DISAGREE with them? Because nine times out of ten, they're not really making "points", they're usually just making fun of whatever is gong on at the moment. That's kinda the way of radio shows...you talk about current events.
I disagree with the politics.
And yes, it is their show, and they can express whatever viewpoint that they want. I'm not saying they can't.
But you must acknowledge that it is biased. Again, I know, so what, right? Personally, though, I'm on the side of the political spectrum that isn't laughing great big belly-laughs at Ron when he says stupid shit like "they should just follow the retard we have in the White House now".
I know what you will say: then just don't listen.
And I haven't been. At least nowhere near as much as I did six months ago.

But they were doing the same thing to Clinton when I started listening in January of 2000. And the "political stuff" is nothing new. Remember all the bets and shows and "radio psychics" about the 2000 election?
I don't want it to seem like I'm nitpicking...and maybe I am...but you seem to talk about this like it's some kind of recent development. Between the 2000 election and 9/11 and what's going on today, the show hasn't had a chance in over three years to really NOT be "political".
Color me curious...idle speculation...but is it the "belly laughs" that are the problem? Or just the fact they make fun of Bush, period?
Oh, and outside of the bullshit non-announcement that El Jefe hyped up, I thought tonight's show was hilarious. I loved the whole "movies that make you cry" bit.
And the first hour replay made me think of something...I HATED Rory, Billy, Mikey, et al after the first few big staff shake-ups. I'm not saying that people have to or will love El Jefe and co., but personally I thought the show was toast after Dumpy was gone and then Poo and then Dukes, etc., etc., etc.. It may seem rough now, but I have absolutely no doubt that R&F will pull through eventually with a great new staff and the same great show.
And it's not like NYC didn't have it's share of tattoo/piercing shows. We have two and it's suddenly not OK?
But maybe I'm just in some kind of retarded minority. It's probably just because I'm DC. We're stupid like that.

I get what you're saying, but what I'VE been saying is that RON & FEZ themselves are as funny as ever. I'll readily admit the show itself as whole (Callers, staff, etc.) took a HUGE hit when the show moved...but the boys themselves, to me at least, still seem on top of the game. And that's why I'm not as "bothered" by other people because Ron & Fez are the reason I started listening in the first place and am STILL listening! Having a great staff is great and all, but as long as those two are still killing, I'll have no problem listening. But I guess I'm in the minority.

The SHOW is and has always been FUNNY. Stop criticizing and over-analyzing everything. Just LISTEN and maybe, just maybe you'll find the laughter again (it all starts with YOU). But until you drop your pompous and arrogant attitude of having a doctorate in the field of laughter, it won't happen.

How many threads have I started on this board (in the last few months) trying to explain the Cameron/El Jefe alliance and the way it would infect the Ron and Fez show with mediocrity?...4 or 5 at least. Ron and Fez are knocking themselves out attempting to bring some humor every night with the new crew. It's been an obvious struggle. Of course El Jefe is the number one show killer any time he opens his mouth.

Face it, the show ain't what it was. I'm hoping this is just a transitional period, but tools like el jaffe are draggin the whole show into the crapper. It's also very apparent how important good callers were, cause the new crop of callers just don't get it.
They need some good new blood and someone who has some original ideas. They don't have to replicate the NY thing and the good old days but how 'bout just doing something thats funny or interesting for a change?
and why are all the new interns guys? How 'bout adding a nice new chick into the mix? How 'bout a producer that gets it? How about trashing those stupid callers?

Right, Washington is better than NY and people with few posts dont know jack. The show belongs to all of us. All our opinions count. The show is not what it was(yet) in terms of quality but it is still great and needs time to iron out the bumps which wont happen if we kill it. It doesn't matter who trashes it, NY or DC, if we don't pick it up we lose the show and none of us want that. What always made this show great was how it interacted with the fans, US. So lets stop the bullshit bickering, and lets try to help pull this thing together. I am sure the boys would give us anything we wanted if we let them know. Lets get together and let them know what we want. Ronny's always listening. You want certain games, contests, etc.? Lets pull some shit together and make the show as much fun as it always was. All its missing is its interaction with us.

How can you expect the DC callers to get it, when they haven't been listening for years? They are all used to the Don and Mike "heres my comment" style of call. Not the quick, fast and funny calls RnF did with you New York guys. I understand how the calls work, cause i listened during the NY days. Theres some good DC callers out there cause they knew what the show was.
Has it gone down-hill? To you maybe, to some people here, its the best thing they have ever heard. Will there ever be super-callers in DC? Remember when they tried power caller, and it was just 5 ppl, thats why they dont do that stuff anymore.
DC Callers dont suck, we just dont have the same understanding of the show. Give them a year of the old episodes live and theyd be right up there with you.

I did not get to read the previous 90 posts to this thread, but being a person that never let ignorance stop me here's my two cents. Ron and Fez are as funny as ever, but the "support staff"just isn't as good or as interesting as the one they had in New York.
It seems to me that the crew in New York really worked hard at the show and was committed to the concept that the Ron and Fez show was all of them. The Washington crew on the other hand just doesn't seem as committed. Maybe because, unlike Rory, El Jeffe wants to be an on the air talent. So his interests may lie elsewhere. I'm just guessing at this shit, but from my little part of the world the Washington crew just doesn't seem committed to the show or its success. The New York crew put their souls into the production, but the Washington guys seem to be mailing it in.
As an aside I realize the New York crew were the Keystone Cops of radio, but what they lacked in talent they made up with in heart. It was an oddball cast of characters that you could love or hate. At any moment Billy or Mikey could have you laughing or make your blood boil, but it was always interesting. El Jeffe's "someone is wearing my clothing" bit pales in comparison.
Lastly I think to blame callers is silly. The callers in New York sucked the big one for a long time and the DC callers will eventually get it. What R&F do with their callers is different than anyone on radio and it takes time to adjust to that.
In the end the show is still the best thing on radio and the kinks will work themselves out.

How about trashing those stupid callers?
Either you people don't want them to be like Don and Mike, or you want them to do exactly what D&M do. Constantly confronting the callers gets old, which is one reason why I love Ron and Fez - it's refreshing change from Stern, the Junkies, D&M and even your beloved Opie and Anthony.
Death Metal Moe - Trent Lott is not from Washington DC. I think he's actually from one of those Southern states you Republican covet so much.
Zappa - Your obsession with El Jefe amuses me, that's all.
Best In Show - you call me a dickhead, one of the first people on here to actually defend the Ron and Fez Show, but yet you're the one who originally did a rallying cry against R&F, and now you are back peddling - lecturing the rest of us on how to behave and interact with the show. By the way, did you fucking read the string of comments and just ignore that I was making fun of the number of times zappa cries about El Jefe, or did you decide to just jump to conclusions that someone with only a 160ish post count (me) would actually make fun of someone with a 100 less (zappa) - on a forum where there are oodles of people with 1000s of post counts.
The reason there are more dick heads in NY, by the way, than DC is that.now try and grasp this.there are more people there.shhhhh! It's a secret!
UnknownPD - You lost me; when is Ray Davies going to work things out with Ron and Fez?
DC Reed - I know where you are going with that, but I don't think you need to apologize for DC callers; a year from now DC callers could even be better than the bestest callers ever known to any talk radio show, and there will always be people who will say otherwise.
Mike The Teacher - The terrorists have already won; Schwarzenegger isn't going to be governor,
AJinDC - No, the best thing about living in the DC area is the radio.
See y'all at Dave and Busters!

Trent may not be from the DC area, but he spends a lot of time there. You have him on loan.

A lot of the old listeners from New York, although they liked the show, are not able to listen anymore, and do not have the time to hunt for it on the computer. Although Ron and Fez have always been great to their listeners, you can't really expect them to go out of their way to include the old New York listeners, because they don't really mean anything to Ron and Fez at this time. They need to worry about their ratings, and how to stay on the air in DC. I'm sure R & F are more concerned with moving forward than moving backwards, so they are focusing on what will make DC listeners want to keep listening. New York might have had a different style of listeners, who enjoy more fringy type humor, while DC is used to politically-motivated humor. R & F are trying to develop a good midway between the two. I think they will eventually come back to giving us "belly laughs", but you gotta give them some time guys! And, for all those people saying that the show sucks because it's not in New York, need I remind you that the reason R&F came to New York was the success that they had down in Florida? So, obviously, they've been through drastic locale changes before, and the boys have pulled through. They are professionals, they do this for a living, they will be back, better than ever, just be patient. And if anyone feels the need to have bragging rights over which location the show was best at, then it goes to Florida. The boys were more commercially successful down there, than they ever were in New York.

???? I'm confused. Didn't Ron and Fez do good in the ratings dept. recently (as posted in an earlier post). The way some people are talking on this board, you think the show is on the verge of being canceled or something. So are the Boys doing Good or what?

you call me a dickhead, one of the first people on here to actually defend the Ron and Fez Show, but yet you're the one who originally did a rallying cry against R&F, and now you are back peddling
I never did a rallying cry against Ron and Fez. I always complained about the callers and the crew, who I still dont like. I defy you to find one negative thing I have ever said about them. They have been nothing but great despite the circumstances. My beef is I feel they dont have enough say over hiring and I feel they have earned that right by now. If the boys picked the crew, I can assure you there would be no complaints. But I realized, why complain about the callers? (Who are a very important part of the show) That is our end of it. The boys are still great, if we can get the same edgey humor out of the callers also, the quality will return. I am sure eventually they wil get better staff. Oh, and as a NY'er I take hombrage to your remark about the NY callers not calling (although I agree we have more dickheads, alot more)
By the way, did you fucking read the string of comments and just ignore that I was making fun of the number of times zappa cries about El Jefe, or did you decide to just jump to conclusions that someone with only a 160ish post count (me) would actually make fun of someone with a 100 less (zappa) - on a forum where there are oodles of people with 1000s of post counts.
I apologize if I mistook your jist but I dont understand your obsession with defending El Jeffe. He brings nothing to the table.

I can assure you there would be no complaints.
Bullshit.
But I realized, why complain about the callers? (Who are a very important part of the show) That is our end of it. The boys are still great, if we can get the same edgey humor out of the callers also, the quality will return.
Thank god you are here to teach us.
Oh, and as a NY'er I take hombrage to your remark about the NY callers not calling
Again...you didn't get it. It was a joke directed at Death Metal Moe who had made a comment about glad he doesn't listen anymore to the feeds.
Get over it!
I thought NYers had thicker skins.
I dont understand your obsession with defending El Jeffe. He brings nothing to the table.
Oh, yay...turnin my comments about zappa BEING obsessed with El Jeffe on me...clever.
Fuck you.
I am not defending El Jeffe, I am defending the negativity directed at a show that's trying to find it's footing - negativity lobbed at the show by supposed fans who are acting like jilted girlfriends, instead of understanding buddies.
For the record, I think that, with the exception of Mikey D., there has really been no one in those positions that have really distinguished themselves; they all have bored and annoyed me at various times, for various reasons.
Ron and Fez are adults and they are professionals and they can and they will take care of themselves, and along the way they will make damn funny radio, no matter what is thrown at them, or what has been taken away, or where they are.

Thank god you are here to teach us
I don't see where you got that interpretation. I never said I was teaching anybody anything. Basically everybody thats here but you already knows whats funny. But you are such an asshole, that anything that is different from the NY show is automatically funny.
Again...you didn't get it. It was a joke directed at Death Metal Moe who had made a comment about glad he doesn't listen anymore to the feeds
And again, you are still an asshole because I read the quote that you think you so ingeniously retorted. I found it offensive because you obviously have a problem with NY callers. I dont give a shit how it sounds like Moes post. Moe refered to listening to the show. But maybe you dont understand the difference.
Oh, yay...turnin my comments about zappa BEING obsessed with El Jeffe on me...clever.
For every post by Zappa, your sniveling ass is right behind , whining like a little bitch. The way his posts annoy you, yours are just as annoying.
Fuck you.
Probably one of your most clever statements.
I am not defending El Jeffe, I am defending the negativity directed at a show that's trying to find it's footing - negativity lobbed at the show by supposed fans who are acting like jilted girlfriends, instead of understanding buddies.
And I guess its up to you to decide what people are allowed to complain about. You are satisfied so everybody else has to shut the fuck up. Dont feel so superior. Everybody else who takes the time to write obviously loves the show as much as you. But they are entitled to express things that they dont like about the show.
