I dunno if anyone has posted this yet, because it's been a month since the news about this was posted on a family guy website, but apparently fox has bought the rights to familyguymovie.com. So it looks like there could be a movie, which would be awesome.

Here's a link (http://www.thedrunkenclam.com) to one of the websites that posted this info (under June Archives), and here's the link (http://www.whois.net/whois.cgi2?d=familyguymovie.com) to the familyguymovie.com information.

Gee, I wonder who would be stoked for this one huh? I have a good feeling that Fox will fuck up this one, as they did with the scheduling of the tv series. Hell, it was very similar to how wnew kept fucking up the R/F show by moving it way too many times and wondering why people can't find the respective shows. Fuck Fox and WNEW. Fuck them in the ass.

I dont think fox will ever make the movie, at least not in the next year...I also heard that Cartoon Network is trying to sign up for new episodes to be made, I think cartoon network would get new episodes before Fox makes a movie. They cancelled it because it was too racy and not PC..so i cant see them making a movie. Yeah the website is registered to them, but doesnt mean anything.

Right.

Fox did that.

They had to make room for wholesome family programming like "Temptation Island" and "World's Sexiest Police Chases", right?

Don't be so sure this won't happen.

Apparently, the ratings for the reruns on CN have been doing well, and the Family Guy season 1 DVD sold far better than expectations. Thus, there is interest in bringing the show back in some form Probably not as another run as a series, because I've heard rumors that Seth has moved on to other things, but it's entirely possible that we may see a Family Guy movie or some sort of special that will be released on DVD.

Because animation dorks are SUCH the desired financial commodity. They're even more isolated and aggravating than comic geeks.

If this thing comes out, it'll go straight to video.

If it goes to theaters, it'll be lucky to make $20 million.

I believe the entire purpose of my post was to show that YES, that IS true to some extent, as there are executives now in serious contemplation of reviving a dead series in order to cash in on a market that is obviously there and willing to spend money.

The adult animation audience is not very big. The South Park movie came out when the buzz was still very strong from the TV show and received mostly good reviews. Yet it only ended up making $52 million. It made a profit, but these days studios are looking for more than that. And it ended up being so profane that they had trouble even selling it the big pay cable channels.

I don't think Family Guy is as big a show as South Park. It certainly isn't in the same league as The Simpsons, and we haven't seen a Simpsons movie either, and probably won't.

So I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Because of the website?

It's common practice to purchase up any available possible website address that could be associated with any potential product that can be spawned from a licensed product. I have no doubt it was mentioned or discussed...but hey, Warner bought up a slew of "Superman: The Movie" addresses more than five years ago, and look how much came out of THAT.

I have been hearing from people who know more about the entertainment business than I am that there is consideration in bringing back Family Guy in some form.

Why? For the 2 reasons I listed in my first post.

1) The DVD set sold much better than their expectations.
2) The ratings for the reruns (aired on Cartoon Network and also, I believe, on TBS) are doing well, not just against cable, but against the NETWORKS. Family Guy reruns are apparently doing well programmed against Leno and Letterman.

Based upon this information, there may be a FG revival (probably in the form of a straight to video / DVD movie). The fact that Fox bought the rights to that website is evidence supporting this happening.

Ratings for a basic cable (Only in some markets, though) repeat against Letterman/Leno...probably pretty good...but those are probably STILL miniscule compared to what the show got when it was actually on in primetime on Fox. It's all in perspective..."Newsradio" killed when it was A&E and will probably sell like crazy when it comes out on DVD in the fall...for a cancelled network sitcom. Perspective, perspective, perspecitve...

Sure, bc that shitty series, "The Simpsons" never made much a profit. Not with advertising, clothing, video games, toys, games, posters, DVD sales, or even cost savings in terms of production costs, studio costs, acting costs and many many more. Sorry were all not psuedo intellects of your liking. Perhaps we just like what we truly enjoy and don't always preach or dress to impress. Once again, suck it!

And what about internet geeks who have over 10,000 posts dating back to only April of 2002? Are you the desired demo? Return to the last two words of the last paragraph.

"The Simpsons" is a global phenomenon. For whatever the reason (Marketing, the planets aligning, being on a new network, too many shitty sitcoms, etc.), it is loved by people who normally don't watch cartoons.

"Family Guy" is not. It is a "cult show". It is mostly loved by "animation geeks", myself being one of the fans. Maybe because it was dicked around schedule-wise or wasn't marketed worth a damn. Ultimately, it ended up in the corner.

If you can't see the difference, read it again.

Don't go too fast now.

You bring this up as if I'm proud of it, brag about it, or haven't mocked myself over it, and my assorted other "geek-nesses" again and again. I LIKE "Family Guy". I just watched it an hour ago. I just don't believe for a second it'll be be back as anything more than a straight-to-video film, if even that.

Hey, that's almost as good as the "It's cool to be not smart" rant you gave me up above.

You made a good point that "The Simpsons" is HUGE and it's animated show. But you were implying that that somehow automatically meant that "Faimly Guy" should have or could have even reached the same. It can't and it wouldn't. It's not cool, but that's just how it is. So what did bringing up "The Simpsons" even prove? And why the fuck are we arguing over a goddamn show where the dad walks around with his balls on his face?

I'm not sure if you mean that mostly people who enjoy animation enjoyed the show because if that is what your saying, than i would disagree. Me and my friend love the show because of the humor is provided, it was a funny show, but only for a certain crowd. PTA mothers and people who dont have a good sense of humor probably wouldnt like it, but i think alot more people liked it than you think do, they did get it brought back for another season after its initial demise.

Most of the people I know personally who loved it are big fans of "adult animated shows", like what's on "Adult Swim" and "The Simpsons" and "Dr. Katz" and "Futurama"...which, outisde of "The Simpsons", really are just niche/cliche shows, for better or for worse...it's not a BAD thing, it's just kinda what they ended up being...it doesn't mean these shows can't be popular in their own way. I think I know more people who saw and liked "Family Guy" than those who didn't, but the numbers weren't just there. It's popular, just not big movie-popular.

Wait, thought of another one that broke the mold in terms of popularity and was even more abrasive than "Family Guy"..."South Park". So who knows? Maybe if Fox hadn't screwed it over, the show could have had a shot at bigger things.

Sorry were all not psuedo intellects of your liking. Perhaps we just like what we truly enjoy and don't always preach or dress to impress.

So by running down why I don't think there's going to be a movie based on the show means I'm "dressing to impress"? Yeah, good call there. When did this thread become about what I think is beneath me? It was about whether or not "Family Guy" was going to become a movie. I don't think it will. Don't get all pissy if you can't deal with that. You assume out of nowhere that I not only do not like the show (Which is flat out wrong) but that I somehow think I'm better than it and those that watch it. What the 'eff?!?

So what exactly was the point? "The Simpsons" comparison didn't hold up because one show caught on and the other didn't. One got dicked over and the other was pushed until you saw it EVERYWHERE. Most "adult" animated shows (Outside of "The Simpsons" and "South Park") are limited in their popularity in comparison to what usually ends getting a shot as a feature film. "Family Guy", for better or for worse, is one of those shows. I don't give a great gooey fuck if you "had to rant" or what you think I think I'm too good for. Talk about the damn show and leave me the fuck out of it. The dentist tore bone from my jaw yesterday and I'm having enough trouble not falling out of my chair. Why get mad at me because there probably won't be a "Family Guy" movie?

EDIT: Look, I can take having my balls busted. I just don't like being called out for doing something I didn't TRY to do. Now with that out of the way, are we arguing about the goddamn show or what?!?

The Simpsons is in it's own category, there will never be a show like it, and only one show came close.

Family Guy.

Fox aired this show after the super-bowl, which means death, the last show to prosper after debuting after the Bowl was "The A-Team."

The show made so many off the wall references and racist (racist to everyone, for every black joke, theres a white joke.) remarks it was cut by Fox. Its a shame, a truely original show, that did something different was taken from us all. How many shows have jokes about the Gumbels in a cop show? Or a Handicapped man who is loaded on testosterone?

I loved this show, and I hope there isnt a movie, its a show. Like the Simpsons, making a movie may kill it. Fortunately South Park's movie was very well done.
