My family decided that we're moving to Conneticut, from Long Island. There's gonna be some big differences. I lived my whole life here in this house. It's not like I'm used to moving around. And since I'm still in school, I see that it's gonna be nearly impossible to get used to it (i'm the not so cool crowd). I'm very pissed at my parents. My father had a job transfer and we could stay, or move closer to the location. What did we do? Move FURTHER! The drive from my current house to the job is about 1hr 25 min by train. how long from my new house? 2 FUCKING HOURS. And my parents really fucked up on moving. Once we got word my dad was transfered my parents immediotly put the house up for sale. And because of this, there's a lot more paperwork involed to get benifits from my father's job. I love it here. All my friends are here. It brings a tear to my eye to think that my bests friends for 8 years will be a state away. The biggest blow? My parents kept this secret. Of course it wasnt much of a secret when I decided to overhear phone conversations. My mom basically told the world but my me and my siblings. I bet the garbage man knew. My parents finally told us, and it turns out they LIED! Now I know how it feels to be lied to like that. My uncle had a stroke and they SAID they visited him in the hospital, but they accaully went to look for houses. Also I asked my mom when we're moving? 3 weeks. What else? My father's new job doesnt start until APRIL. If only I could go to school for one more year. Only my best friends know I'm moving. Teachers and everyone else have no idea. So I blame this completely on my parents. And I'm not over reacting.
Maybe this isnt the side you know me from, but I am extremly pissed and saddened.
I'll try to get my internet up ASAP and I looked on the FCC Channel Index and it turns out that the town I'm moving to is either on the border of new york wavelenths, or a few miles away.

SatCam.
That sounds like it really sucks-but really- what can you do about it? I'm not being facetious but you do still live at home and unfortunately that means that you live under a dictatorship whether you like it or not. The only advice I have for you is to go with the flow and try to slowly adjust to it. I guarantee that you will make new friends, adjust to a new school and learn to live with it. It's just going to take time. Good luck to you and keep posting. You can always bitch here- you got friends!!

My parents moved around ALOT when I was young. I went to a bunch of different schools and had a bunch of different addresses and then wound up finally moving very far away from Bayonne to South Jersey, away from everyone and everything. I totally resented them for it. It took me 22 years to get back to my hometown, I'm finally happy and I'm gonna stay here forever. Good luck. At least you have the internet now.

I was in the same boat like DJEvelEd, with my parents moving around alot. Heck, my parents even left me with relatives for some time. They dumped me in Chicago, LA, San Fran, Pittsburgh (who knows where else they left me) while they were deciding to make the NY/NJ area our home. We later moved to Mississippi and Alabama (total of 5 years), even though it was okay it's not like living up here. Like DJEvelEd did, when I was able to move on my own, I moved back up here.
And the friends that I grew up with here in the NY/NJ area, I kept in contact with them via p/c and letters (there was no internet then). I even came up here a couple of times (even though they made fun of my southern accent/ which comes back from time to time).
Damn.....it seems everytime I read the board, people are moving away. What's going on?
Good luck with the move. It's be cool going to a new school/area, even though you said that you weren't in the not so cool crowd, you can change that at your new school. Didn't you see the movie the New Kid.

Ugh.
Let's see; in a seven year stretch, while the Dad was doing his Post Korea USMC thang it went like this:
Parents lived in Jersey City, New Jersey...
Transferred to Santa Ana, California: Older Bro born
Dad leave USMC active, goes on reserve...
Move to Miami Florida: I'm born there...
USMC tells Dad 'you can have your own Chopper Squadron Command, and we'll make you a Lt. Col, two steps away from General, so...
We move to Elgin, Illinois, near Glenview Naval airbase, my Dad Commands fixed-wing pilots with the main aim of avoiding a fiery death flying Helicopters; sadly, not all acheive the aim: Younger Bro born
2 years of reserves; he calls it quits for good, we all move back to central New Jersey.
And they moved in NJ twice since then...
And before all of this, my Mom had the fun fun time of having your husband over 10,000 miles away in Korea; where you husband is flying helicopters, which are brand new technology, and as such there are appaling losses due to crashes; weather and terrain in Korea claimed pilots weekly, if not the enemy...
When he was flying those heli's? whether a Medical Evac like you see on MASH to landing a Huey Gunship on a carrier at night in radio blackout on an aircraft carrier in the Sea of Japan?
He was 25 years old.
Can you tell I lucked out and had the best parents one could ever hope for?

I dont know about everyone else, but thats seems like the worst part of the story to me. Your parents are total dicks SatCam. I hope everything works out with the move, hey, maybe you'll end up being the most popular kid in your new school.

for some reason Lizzie came to mind:
Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
And when she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.

*just kidding* :)
you know what you could do though. when you reach the age to move out, silently pack your stuff and sneak out during the night. leave a little fake blood on the pillow and window ledge. after a few days of stricken panic, send them a postcard with your change of address as if everyuthing was normal...
*just kidding* again - it's a shame there isn't better communication or consideration on your parents part. not sure what's going through their heads. have a good talk with them and let them know how much it hurt and see why they chose to handle it the way they did and whether it made any sense at all.

we have all had to do it man. take the good outta it. one, your parents are gonna make you do things you dont want to forever. even when your 40 and dont really wanna go home for holidays. just go up there and freak it. you said your not a cool kid, now you'll be in a place no one knows that. be yourself and make new friends. especially in HS, just crack a few jokes and they will be all around
