On Thursday's show, a listener called in during a discussion on collections to say he had a collection of 1970s Blacksploitation movie posters - one of the only ones to make Ron say, "Now that's cool."

IN THE EVENT (!) that that person every surfs this site, there is a store in DC ("Second Story Books") that has a pretty good collection of original one sheets, usually priced from $75 - $150.

MANDINGO, BLACKULA, SHAFT'S BIG SCORE are three of them, but they had many more.

I collect posters, and one of the prizes of my personal collection was SWEETBACK, which I sold for an inflated $300 about a year ago - that's what it was worth it for me to part with it, and evedently it was worth it for the person who purchased it.

"Rated X By An All White Jury!"

I still regret it, and hopefully will find it again someday.

Anyway...hope the dude knows about this store; sure he could find the info in the phone book, if he doesn't already know about them.

Even better, if they have a framed print for "Petey Wheatstraw: The Devil's Son-In-Law", well, I may just shit Reed's pants.

The one I want is one for "Abby," which was the black version of the EXORCIST.

Any northern Virginia people looking for Blacksploitation movies to rent, there is no other choice than Video Vault in Alexandria. Jim and Jane use to advertise "Guarenteed Worst Movies In Town" - today they boast one of the best $elections anywhere; cited in Entertainment Weekly, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Time Magazine.

The only downside is that you have to pay a fee to join, which you don't see anymore. 10 minutes in the store, though, and you don't care.

"Blacula" doesn't count. Well, barely. It IS "Blaxploitation" in its blatant obviousness, but it's actually kindasortamaybe a GOOD horror film, straight up.

The video vault is awesome. Each room is a different genre. I have a lifetime membership I think it cost me 26 bucks back in the 80's.

It is on Washington street in Old Town Alexandria one block south of Duke street.

I worked their briefly in the early 1990s with Andy Gore (the one who was the guest on R&F a few months ago), and set up a ficticuous account for Satan under member #666 (I did...not Andy...still have the card somewhere).

Lee Atwater was member #1 because he went to school with them; he was still renting there right up to his death.

Anywho, the vault is the best in VA; Maryland and DC have a pretty good one with the Video American chain.

They close early on Sundays - 6pm; 9pm Mondays - Thursday and 10pm on Friday and Saturday. At least that's what they use to be. On Tuesdays, all videos and DVD rentals are half price.

They are a real mom and pop store - that is if your mom and pop had a store that displayed posters (not for sale) from CRIPPLED MASTERS, ANDY WARHOL'S DRACULA and FASTER PUSSYCAT! KILL! KILL!, not to mention movies as varied as EL TOPO and MEN BEHIND THE SUN to THE DANCING OUTLAW (a favorite!) and my beloved ABBY!

Three floors - nine rooms - a zillion movies. Your head will spin!

And hey...those of you who don't live in the area, they have been doing mail order rentals for well over 10 years before Netflix!

They're only a real "mom 'n' pop" video store if their candy stock is at least 10 years old and really only there for decorative purposes.

Oooh, I know this place all too well. It's called "Video on Hudson"... They still sell Bubble Tape and Whatchamacallit... I don't think their candy has moved since the place OPENED.

<p>Heads up for anyone in the DC area: the Smithsonian's traveling
exhibit &quot;Close Up In Black: African American Film Posters&quot; is currently
at the Ripley Center through the end of the month. An excellent
collection of about a 100 or so posters, going all the way back to the
silent era, through the films of Robeson and Lena Horne, up through
Sidney Poitier, and into the blaxploitation era and up to current
posters. Some really amazing and beautiful images and worth a quick
visit; the catalogue of the exhibit has many more pics too.</p><p><img src="http://www.sites.si.edu/images/exhibits/close_up1.jpg" width="123" height="244" border="0" /><img src="http://www.sites.si.edu/images/exhibits/close_up2.jpg" width="169" height="250" border="0" /><br />
&nbsp;</p><p>The
Ripley Center's entrance is next to the Smithsonian Castle on the mall
- the center itself is underground, and is usually free of the mobs of
tourists.</p><p><a href="http://www.sites.si.edu/exhibitions/exhibit_main.asp?id=37" target="_self" title=" Close Up in Black: African American Film Posters">&nbsp;</a></p>
