But, you can go anywhere in the US and find a "bagel."

You're not generalizing, Jewish people are known "bagel" lovers just like "Italians" love pasta. Also, just like Italians make great pasta so do the Jews and Bagels. Let's generalize some more....nine out of ten times "lox" will be an available spread in any Jewish home for those bagels. What's next? Is it generalizing to say why do blacks love fried chicken? I got a bagel in PA, ONCE!!! It looked like a real bagel, but ended up just being this bread ring with an outside crust. They must have missed a step in the prep or just flat out fucked up the recepie for the dough. Out in Pennsylvania Dutch country stick to pretzels, Beef boblogna and shit like that, OK?

Someone will know better than I do but for now what I know is this: Jews brought the bagel to the US, primarily New York, sometime in the 19th century. They were only common in Jewish delis and bakeries until someone thought to bag em up and ship em to stores where they became popular nationwide and among gentiles. (In the late 70's my grandmother used to have them shipped from NY to Cali until some grocery store 30 minutes away started carrying them.) Bagels are a traditional Jewish food because authentic bagels are made without dairy, making them "pareve" by kosher law. As to when it's kosher to put cream cheese on them, I don't know. Being on the Atkins Diet, (raw meat and bacon grease diet), Too Cute and The Chairman would blow up like Billy and Paul Lo's wife if they ate a bagel.

And Steels, I was robbed by white guys, so save that bigotry lite bullshit for the rallys. The dad in American History X was not the good guy. Watch it again and this time without the paper bag full of model glue.

It's when the talk starts sounding like it proves something...like, "ah-HAH!!! I KNEW blacks LOVED fried chicken!" that it seems really stupid and pointless. It's too often NOT "blacks love fried chicken because it's delicious and that's what they tend to eat in certain neighborhoods or they were raised that way" and usually ends up being "blacks like fried chicken because they're black." Like they're genetically designed to love chicken. There IS a huge difference. It doesn't necessarily make someone a racist...usually doesn't, actually...just willfully ignorant. Again, it's not about being non-PC...it's about being non-retarded.

I prefer a real baili if I get a chance to get one, I like it cut carefully in half and toasted with butter.
I think bagels should be dense and moist, not airy like supermarket versions. Bagels are actually getting pretty popular in Japan of all places for some reason. I wonder if they have bagel places in Africa?

I only buy my bagels from in my town, because I can't gain any access to bagels in NYC (its the whole don't-have-a-car thing that prevents me from gettin' there). The one's that they make at the Bagel Buffet in my town are freshly made, and pretty damn good.

But I could really go for a freshly made pretzel right now. O man...that and a can of Coke would really hit the spot.
