I was wondering if you have to have a certificatiom to install one of them. According to my boss he says you dont. I dont really want to ask him and make him all suspicous. So I figured Id ask here. The reason for me asking is I allready know how to solder and assemble most Backflow devices. The newer type of back flow device is called a Pressure vacuum Breaker. The water Co. is making residents w/ in ground sprinkler systems who allready have a Double check valve have them installed. Now the average price for these deivces runs about 60 bucks. Not including all the copper fittings flux Ect. Most places or sprinkler people who install them charge the clients about 200 bucks. (or what my boss charges people) Now I figure If I can go out there and charge people 150 maybe even 125 they'd be happy! Hell I know I would. On top of that this device actually saves you money in the long run. As with the double check valve, it needs to be tested every year by someone whos certifed. Just to do that costs 200 bucks!............ a year!!! The Pressure vacuum breaker only needs to be checked once by the water Company. Get it? Got it? Ok now help!

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. But I used to do side jobs for people and 90% of the time it backfired. I either got married to the job and everything that went wrong was somehow my fault even though there was no relation between what I did what went bad later. I got screwed when it came time to get paid and one time my boss found out what I was doing and try to sue me. So, you really might be best off to stay away from the side job thing.

So you want to install a backflow device in your lawn sprinkler so you don't get fertilizers in your drinking water?

Not really but in a sence yes. Really , all it has to do with is syphonage and water pressure (psi) If you want, read this, its really really long , Im not sure what page talks about backflow devices, but this whole <a href=http://www.epa.gov/safewater/pdf/crossconnection/crossconnection.pdf>"Cross-connection manual"</a> tells you what backflow is
