You want companies? Dell, and possibly Gateway. Dont go for that Compaq and HP shit that is like $200. It runs like a Dell from 1998. Pentium IV with atleast 2ghz is gonna get you around. AMD isnt so bad, but you're probably not gonna find it with these companies. Go for a large amount of ram, preferably 512 mb. Large harddrive, atleast 60gb. Go with a DVD-Rom and a CD-RW. Dont do any DVD/DVD-RW/CD-RW Rom stuff... it's new and expensive, you should wait a while. Memory card should have atleast 64mb. Get some good speakers, 5.1 is good, but expensive. For your monitor, get 17 or 19". I suggest flat panel, but that is often expensive. I think I covered everything. Most of the other stuff is standard.

You can get a really good deal if you buy off the internet and buy bits and pieces instead of eveything together. You can still go to any kind of tech store and still get something good.

Get a P4 with some where around 2.2 ghz or higher depending on what you want to do. Get yourself 512 ram and 50 gigs or more. If you're a gamer you want to get a 128 mb graphics card, but if you're not you can save money if you get a 64 mb. If you have the money get a flat panel, you should be able to find a good one for about $300.

We used to use Gateways at my job and we had a lot of problems with them. We switched to Dell and I use a Dell at home and I havent had a problem yet.

I use Grim Sanity's store in Clifton. I mean you don't get 24 hour tech support, but you get great deals on computer equipment.

Get a Dell. I've had two of them and have never had any problems with them.

The answer is 42.

Stay away from Gateway. They try to sell you a whole bunch of shit you don't want.

Personally, I love my Compaq. The only problem I ever had with it was with Windows XP (fucking Bill Gates!!!). Otherwise the computer itself is fine.

A "good computer" is relative. What do you need it for? I just use mine for e-mail, internet, and Word. Are you gaming? Downloading huge amounts of porn???

thanks Grim but my parents have already made the decision on gettin' a Dell and they already ordered it. But if we ever change our mind we'll get in touch with ya. Thanks again for the offer.
