Why does airline food taste so bad?

After the flights I had on my trips...I couldn't help but notice how bad the airplane food tastes..holy Christ....I just want to know why that is I figured the all knowing Horde King would be perfect to ask

Whenever I'm on a plane, I always drink tomato juice. I don't drink it anywhere else. In fact, I would never even think of drinking it on the ground, but for some reason whenever I fly I gotta have the tomato juice. What do you suppose that is about?

I truly love airplane food, I always have, and I fly very often. First class is much more fun, but even in coach, I enjoy the way the food is presented. Everything in its own little spot on the tray, compartmentalized. And the drinks are served seperately. The food is good, and the way is good. They place special emphasis on Presentation. The way is very good. I love it.

Yea, I have no problem with it. I mean back in the 80's on Eastern it sucked.

But the most recent flights I've taken gave me very good food. As bunny described it, it was great. Rolls were handed out from a basket seperately. Had plenty of soda and water.

I guess the only possible problem might be if the crew overcooks the food? I don't know.

I think every comic in the 80's doing a bit in their set on horrible airline food pretty much sent a message to the airlines to shape up, and they did.

I'm not a pickey eater, and I've only taken 1 trip (6 flights). This was on British Airways, and I noticed the food was alright, especially the pretzils, and all the coke you can drink. The only thing I had a problem with, was the dinner. The dinner had too much crap that sucked, so I didnt eat a lot of it, so it wasnt that fufilling. And one of the "snack sandwiches" had dry bread.

There's nothing wrong with airline food. You can get some soda or whatever you want to drink, a few snakes, and if you're lucky a meal.

That's the problem, on some of the flights that aren't longer than 3 hours you don't get a meal. Just peanuts and a drink.

I fly a lot. These days I rarely encounter problems with airline food because you rarely get actual food.

But why complain? If you know you're going to hate the food, how difficult is it to bring a sandwich or something along that you know you'll enjoy?

That is a good point. As with many other things in life, depending on others is a waste of time and always leaves you disappointed.

I guess the only 2 arguments to that statement are:

1. I already paid for it, so I want a good meal
and
2. I can bring cold or room temp food, but over a long flight I want a hot meal.

If you can cancel your meal and not get charged then problem 1 is solved. I don't fly enough to know if that's possible.

But problem 2 is tougher. For instance, when I flew to Syria it was a 10-12 hour flight to Switzerland where we changed planes, then like 3-4 more hours to Syria. Don't quote me on the exact times. But if I'm on a plane for 10 hours, I want a hot meal. And it better be good.

hey i loved highschool food. ofcourse i was coming in late to lunch after smoking a blunt in the park, so i suppose when ur have the munchies anything tastes good. another reason y i love chronic.

I went to a brand new, rich international high school, so I loved the food.

Like a food court right in the middle of campus.

Grill, soup/salad/sandwich bar, sushi, Asian dishes, juice bar...it was fantabulous.
