WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SOMEONE JUMPS BAIL?

I bailed my girlfriends uncle out of jail (ag. assault) a few months ago. I was lied to by the bailbondsman that I was not responsible. They said I was only responsible to help the bond company if he skipped bail and the 1000.00 we put up would be forfeited. LIES because now I get a call at 11:30 last night that if I don't find this guy, I would get a bill for 10,000.00. This would go on my credit report and they can garnish my wages too. I know kinda where he lives/hangs out and I gave all the info I could to the guy on the phone. I really don't know my girl's uncle but I was the only LEGAL resident that was able to bail him out. The whole family is here illegally and it's a big joke to them because they live off the grid. If they get in trouble they just do the "don't show up/get deported/come back in 2 weeks" routine. I'm ready to go to this bar myself, and if I have to, get into a fight with him so BOTH of us get arrested, I will, but as a last resort. What is the procedure for this and how much time do I have? The bondsman called me from PA so I'm not sure how he can help me if I find him and want him arrested immediately. Is it up to me to handcuff this guy? I'm so fed up with this family that if they ALL went to jail, America would be a better place. Help me Horde King, you're my only hope.

First of all, I'm only speaking from personal experience so you should probably ask around there also BUT - I don't think you should worry.

If you paid cash, they CAN'T do anything to you legally or hold you responsible for his whereabouts. But take note, they WILL harass you as much as they can to try and turn this guy in, that is their job. You are now the address the bail place has so they assume you would know the most info about this guy.

I was harassed by some bounty hunters a few months ago looking for a friend I knew that skipped bail and they will try ANYTHING to get you to find/turn him in. I actually called the police on these guys because they were following me and telling me they were on their way to my house with a warrant (so I flushed all my weed) but none of it was true.

SOOOOO- Don't freak out yet, I honestly think they're just trying to get you to give him up. They can't make you pay the $10,000.

you give the bail bondsman 10% of the bail, thats his period. he puts up the bail and gets it back when you show for court. you dont show, they keep his money and he sends a bounty hunter
