I've been fiddling around with IE trying to fix a previous problem (you may remember) and when I start IE it tells me that it's running in "compatability mode" and it doesnt let me start the chat room. Does anyone know how to get it out of this mode? I gotta get in there!

Have you installed multiple versions of IE on your system? For example version 4 and 5 and 6...if so, if those previous versions still exist you may get compatibility errors. If this is the case I suggest you download the very latest version of IE (but don't install it yet...you can do this in the settings when you go to download). Next, remove all previous versions of IE and then reinstall it.
As a precaution, you ensure you don't lose any online time, you may want to have the Netscape or Mozilla browsers installed as a backup.
This way if you can use them if there's any problems getting IE to work.
On a seperate note, is your computer running on a system that used to have DOS at one point? If so, you're system may be running in MS DOS Compatibility Mode, but I don't think that's the case here. You can determine if you are, through the control panel. Go the System icon in the control panel and click on the Performance tab, in there you'll see if you are running in MS DOS Compatibility Mode, though I doubt this is the case. As a precaution though, you may want to check.
Here's some articles on Microsoft's site regarding MS DOS Compatiblity Modes and what can cause it.
These articles may give you some clues re DOS.

OK, you got it, I think. I somehow ended up installing two versions. One of them worked with the chat room and the other one didnt. Then I logged on one day, and it told me it was running in compatability mode. As far as I know, I thought I was running both on the latest version of IE.
My first OS on this computer was 98, so I dont think it has anything to do with that.

I think it means Internet Explorer is looking for a date, and is working the room so to speak with your other programs to see if it can get in their E-pants.
