The Democrats were looking for a way to pay off the deficit.
Apparently the Republicans are still running away from the issue.

You mean the one they created? Last I checked, Democrats controlled EVERY elected position in CA government, and have for some time. And somehow you are deranged enough to blame anyone but the Democrats? Check your prescription, it needs to be increased.

Helped to, yes. A shitty government is a shitty government, and California has had one on pretty much all levels for a good twenty years now.
And somehow you are deranged enough to blame anyone but the Democrats?
He actually didn't do that at all. Gray Davis and co. deserve all the smackdowns they can get, but let's not be seeing things now.

Glasses might be nice, too.

If he says the Republicans are "running away from the issue" and the Democrats are the only ones looking for a solution, how do you read that? I read it as HF is saying that Dems are trying to fix the problems in California but the Repubs are preventing them from doing so. He's not blaming the party that controls every high office in the State; no no why blame them? Blame the ones who don't set the agenda, don't control the budget process, and especially don't control the massive spending. There is no one else to blame but the Democrats, yet HF won't call them out, oh no.
HF has a hard-on of hatred for Republicans, and it addles his brain most of the time, so I understand and can forgive that. Defending an untenable position, though, that is a little harder to figure out.

From the article:
...it could improve chances for a ballot initiative that would make it easier for the Democrats to raise taxes by lowering the threshold for passage from two-thirds to 55 percent
This is the reason given by the Dems for "slowing the budget process".
Whether they are right or wrong is debatable.
As BERGALAD lacks my drug-induced haze, perhaps he can quote the part of the article that describes what the Reps are doing to solve the crisis.
Sure, Davis is largely responsible for the problems out there and I have no problem saying so.

Hey man, I look forward to you using those same standards with the Republicans in the federal government.
Stand back evrabody, BERGALAD'S about to call out Bush and the Republicans!

You're arguing two different points. He said the Republicans weren't trying to SOLVE it, you said he was blaming them for causing it. There's a huge difference. You were flat-out accusing him of something he didn't say.

Give him some room, MOJO, he's about to go berzerk on the Repubs for the federal debt mess as an example of consistency and fairness.

This thread was dead. The last post was over a week old and by YOU, so by posting to yourself...that has to be a violation of something.
