View Full Version : Is Ozzy's legacy tarnished?

With the continued success of "The Osbornes", will Ozzy be remembered for his music as he should be, or will he be remembered as the doddering fool we see every week on MTV? My way around the question is this. The way I see it, there are two Ozzys. This wasn't a conscious decision, my mind has just separated him as if he is actually two completely different, unrelated people.

There's MTV Ozzy, wandering around his house, essentially helpless without his wife or other handlers to direct him. It's funny to watch, but sad if you take a moment to think about it. This is a formerly vital, lively man whose body and mind have been completely ravaged by years of drug use, drinking and mistreatment, not unlike Elvis. He is an object lesson to us all.

Then there is OZZY, rock god and a founding father of an entire genre of music. His work with Sabbath alone puts him in the Hall of Fame, but his solo career puts him in the Pantheon with the likes of Bob Dylan, The Beatles, and Little Richard. He stands shoulder to shoulder with them, not as the guy who bit the head off a dove and snorted a line of ants, but as an artist, musician, and showman of the highest caliber.

Undoubtedly, "The Osbornes" has brought Ozzy more fame than his music career ever did. This is a shame. There are people in the world, like my mother for example, who know Ozzy only as the shell she sees on TV. She never will, or would want to, know about Ozzy the musician. Do these people outnumber those of us who will remember Ozzy for what he really was? I hope not.

Ozzy has always been a fat dolt.
It's just that some have bought into the hype.
Some of us have been on to him all along.

Thank you.

There was always the legend of Ozzy being crazy and losing his mind. This was BEFORE the TV show. It was kind of ok then cause he was still Ozzy the LEGEND as opposed to Ozzy the idiot. Then the show take soff and yes, I think it does tarnish things. Ozzy did this tour years ago called No More Tours. 1993 I think it was? He kept coming back and coming back. Through my metal circles, I keep hearing that Sharon keeps wheeling him out there to perform and Ozzy is so fucked up on meds he has no idea what is going on and he just keeps performing.

I mean there has to be an end somewhere. His music is less than stellar anymore and like so many others (Aerosmith, KISS, etc) he should just get OFF the stage before he really tarnishes his career/legend status.

The only difference I see between the Ozzy, Aerosmith and KISS tours and the AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Dio, and forthcoming Priest tours is that these musicians are all still writing music and putting out albums and you can just tell that there is some heart and substance behind it and they don't seem to be jacking you for a lot of cash either.

As I stated so many times before, there should come a time when a band just goes away so it can hold on to it's legendary status. I mean how much richer can you possibly get?

GENE, I am pointing your direction! This Menudo theory with KISS will never work! Thank you.

Kindest Regards, Your Fluff

If you IGNORE the IDIOTS and don't respond, THEY WILL go away.

Yea, i think its officially time to stop, it was funny the first time, now the novelty has worn off and all you see is how commercialized the family has become, with the exception of Ozzy who has no idea what the fuck is going on. But, like MTV, they'll let this show go on til ozzy is fucking dead the money grabbing, music ruining, heartless pricks. DIE MTV!!

The thing that pisses me off more is that it is completely glossed over that much of Ozzy's stuttering and stammering is due to a form of parkensons he suffers from. They even edited out mentions of it from the tv show (it's in the De1eted scenes from the season one set) - just because it's funnier to blame all of that behavior on a life of drinking and doing drugs. MTV should be flogged.

On a side note, seeing him last night reminded me of when I saw Sinatra at the end of his career. He is just not as into it as he once was. Still, with the exception of "Crazy Train" he sounded really good (I thought), but the early solo-ozzy stuff doesn't hold up with the younger crowd.

I had fun, and i hope that if he really was sick of the road that he would call it off.

...now the novelty has worn off...

The novelty wore off back in '72.
Since then, it's just been hype, hype sadly bought into by some 14 year-old boys who are to be pitied more than anything else.

I know.
Ozzy was good for a few songs, lessee, uh, "War Pigs", "Iron Man", "Paranoid"...........suddenly the well gets dry.

Since then he's been a joke devoid of humor.
(see my comment above on "hype").

Ozzy rules

More like Ozzy drools.

He's been irrelevant for 30 years.

The rest is just hype.

So sorry that some of you have fallen for it.

30 years? Try ten, if your not into his music thats fine, but he made good music within at least the past 15 years.

Nope, 30.

He has done nothing new and has been a parody of himself since then

So sorry you bought the hype.

There will come a time when you will realize what I'm saying and you'll feel really dumb; kinda like the fools who wore the dopey disco clothes back in the '70s and allowed themselves to be photographed wearing the platform shoes and the polyester.

Thanks for your opinion high fly, but if you don't mind I and the millions of other Ozzy fans will continue to enjoy his music. I got your opinion the 1st time you wrote it. You don't have to keep restating it like it's some sort of fucking fact.

Just don't let anyone take pictures of those posters on your bedroom walls.

I will give him this: it was funny when Ozzy was on Letterman and said that when he bit the head off the bat, it was an accident![i]

go ahead, guys; I'll leave you alone.
