hey buddys, i need some help. Here's my situation.
My dilemma started today when i noticed my pay per views were out on my cable. i checked my descrambler and after 6 years of use it finally died on me. I have been sticking with cable for internet access, free wrestling/boxing/movies/nudie channels. But I plan on getting a laptop in a month or so and dumping my current computer which would be used solely for gambling/fantasy football purposes which wouldn't really necessitate a cable modem.
So I am considering switching to satellite. For some reason i'm treating this as if it were a radical and contreversial surgery i'm thinking about. Some of my friends have it and swear by it. I have a problem with having something like 500 channels to memorize (i like channel surfing and it seems with satellite it takes forever to get through the entire lineup) The NFL season pass intrigues me but if i go this route i'll be paying for everything because it seems like the cards go out way too much and seem like a real pain in the ass to keep programming.
So i'm still kind of on the fence with this. The prices are similar but what is a boy to do. Where do you guys stand on this debate?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I'm moving to a new house and am facing the same problem. Could some people with satellite convince us that it's better than cable?

i actualyl just recenlty went to sattelite..I had cable years ago with satelite I am actually very happy with. alot of channels that dont go with cable come with it and although on a negatvie point it goes for both. with the statelite it sucks though is when there is inclimate weather it scambles up the picture and you dont have t.v. for a while, but recently especially with the the black out once power came back on i had reception while others didnt, I also enjoy the chance of seeing t.v. from other states and countries, I use direct tv which is one of the better ones out there, and its actualyl quiete cheaper then cable. My father has digital cable and he is actually paying more then I am paying and i have more channels then he does

are we discussing regular cable or digital cable vs satellite?

if its regular cable, get directv. more channels, thats the best reason to get it. i mean if u miss sopranos one night, u can just tune in 3 hours later and catch it on the west coast HBO. all the movie channels are like that. its great. and picture quality is soo much better than cable, its crystela clear.

but if we are discussing digital cable vs satellite, get digital cable. if i could get digital cable in my area i would get it. and i have satellite now.

One problem with getting digital cable is that there are no illegal boxes available for IO cable (so I have heard from people who would do that). For the same reason, getting satellite TV would eliminate any chance of someone using a box to get PPVs.

IO is great, and I have to stay with cable because of Optimum online. But, that On Demand thing with IO is really cool for rich slobs like me
