So after all of this time, I finally got a domain and hosting for my website.

I would like to send a big juge thank you to Mr. Impact, Jeff, Reef and Jon for any help you have given me and hopefully will continue to give me in the future.

So the problem now is this, I have uploaded a small 300 kb Flash movie to my host through my FTP and the damnt hing is not showing up. Is this becasue my NEW domain/site need time to gain sp[eed online or is the hoster I have just not powerful enough. I didn't think i was going to need that much power to run this thing as my site is all a series of Flash movies. Is there anything I have to do to these movies before I load them?

Hope I chose the right forum here for some help and I look forward to any advice/help I can get from my peers. Thanks again to the above few who have helped already.

fluffernutter,

It has nothing to do with the hosting service, flash animations run on the computer of the person viewing it, NOT on the server side.

A possible explanation is that you might not have uploaded the file to the right directory. Some hosting services keep separate directories for their customers... one for HTML, one for FTP another for PERL.

I'd sugest contacting the tech support department and just asking in which directory you should be putting your files (html, images, swf, whatever) so they can be accessed though the web.

This directory (or folder) is often called the HOME directory.

Hope this helps.

Peace & Hugs,

You're welcome Fluff. Orallo may have a point with regards to where you can store Flash files, so you may want to check with the hosting service.

This may or may not be case with all sites and hosting services. The one we tested on my website didn't require any special folder or area for the file to be placed it. It just simply launched. I don't know if the hosting service you have though may have special procedures or not.

I'm pretty clueless on this stuff; but my friend who designed my site specializes in low-bandwidth-ing it as much as possible.

A lot of people still access the internet/websites through phone lines, and that means that if it takes even a second or two to load a front page; or if people see a 'please wait' when they hit the first page; they're basically already clicking to another site.

Not everyone of course. But I go to a zillion websites, and I'm a little impatient fuck so if the page doesnt show up fast, I'm gone.

If the Flash is for the intro, maybe skip it; impatient people like me want it NOW!!!!
