Club $election question

no, i dont mean dance club, i mean golf club. eww golf, boring....ya ya ya, i know someone on this damn board has to be a golfer. so here goes:
ive been having great troubles with my driver. same troubles i had with every club when i started, slicing, then over correcting and pulling. ive found the groove on everything and i can take solid swings with most clubs, but i still can figure out the driver. ive tried higher teeing, backin up on the ball.
Should i take the driver out, keep the 3, 5 and 7 and add another wedge or a 2 iron or something.

Note:if i get one real piece of advice from a golfer, thank you, but i dont expect to find many golfers so i cant wait to see some of the interesting shit you guys come up with

well, i'll take a shot at this one....Me and You have talked golf in the past on the AIM so you know that this is at least somewhat legit.

this was happening to me all the time. I know you mentioned that you tried to back up on the ball. I am assuming that this means making it so that the ball is closer to your lead foot(your left foot if you are a righty and vica versa). I did the same.
The only thing that actually seemed to work was something i saw on TV once. I am gonna try to demonstrate this as best as I can on here, but I don't know how well I'll be able to.

imagine a straight line from the point you are aiming for to your tee. now extend that line past your tee to a point that it is behind the ball and you. If you are slicing the ball(as you say you are) that means your clubhead is most likely going to the outside of that line(the side that is further away from your body). Therefore, when imagining that line try to keep your clubhead on that imaginary line or on the inside of that line.

This is not an exact science but it helps without a doubt. Tell me if it works.

Keep the ball in the middle of your legs and always swing though. Dont look up at the ball until you completed your swing. Keep your wrists locked, dont break your wrists. Stay on the balls of your feet, and most of all be loose.

I dont play golf an awful lot, but i know how to play the game.

not true. a driver has a longer shaft than a 3 wood, and 3 more than 5 and so on, same with irons. a ball has to be slightly ahead of middle with a driver, where as slightly behind middle with like a 9 iron/PW, thats where you need to play the game to see, they start teaching you just middle cause its correct for the biggest range
its just the driver i basically over correct whatever my last mistake is everytime, its my head.
so im just dumpin it, goin 3 and 5 wood, addin a 7 wood and an approach wedge

If you can manage hitting your 3 wood off the tee and are good with all your woods you might want to get some nice lofted wedges.

Focus more on your short game, instead of wasting so much time on the driving range with your driver.

im playin great gorge tomorrow, here is what im goin with and tendencies:
3 wood-about 250, not much worse than a drive, and much more consistent
5 wood-just for par 5 fairways
7 wood-nice, hit it from anywhere, 2 iron like from fairway
4 iron-standard, hit a softer 7 wood in place of 3iron
5-9 irons im pretty good with, PW pretty good
debating either a 54 degree SW or a 51 degree approach, and i have a titleist vokey 60degree then a putter

I've played the course a few times and perhaps I'd meet up and play too. My advise is really to be teamed up with Sticky's advice. Most slices are due to swinging outside the plane, teeing up to far from the front foot and most of all the baseball swing. By this I mean only pushing with your back hand or right hand for righties. This and an outside plane swing will end up in a slice all the time and bad. It usually happens most with the driver bc you swing harder looking for the big drive and the longer shaft. If you're looking to buy a new driver look for a softer shaft too as it will help, even if you swing real fast. Try to pull with you lead hand as well as push with your back hand equally. Place the ball just on the instep of your lead foot and create a flow on the "Sticky" plane with your backswing and forward momentum. Should help.....

alright, we played, and yes spoon played.
he shot a 97, and me an ouch, 114, but actually being how bad i played, i got away with one.
i figured out i just rush too much. i play better stoned cause i slow down and relax, so normal i need to do that, the swing actually feels ok, its just my body movements.
Your fuckin dead when it comes around though spoon. and so you guys know, 114 is bad for me, im usually 100-110, we all played pretty bad today. ill get it turned around next tuesday at archatects, bring your wallet sucka, i need to get some of that money back

Well, if you want to go out one day I'll be happy to. I havent played a full 18 hole game in almost 3 years, but recently I have been playing alot of pitch and putt. There's a decent course by my house if you want to do something quick and fun.

If you hit your drive 285 on hole 2 then that would mean I hit mine over 300. No fucking way! I hit mine 265, yours was a 240ish. Of course that was my third shot since snoogs and will gave poor spoon absolutely no time to warm up. I lost the first four holes ($4) but came back (after warmed up a little) and won ten of the next 14 as well as tied two. Snoogs started great, but he ran out of his vice/muse. Next time. Pantera, you should come out to the Architect road trip next Tuesday. Great course with a little commute in NJ. Well worth it I hear. If Patera is in, we have room for one more??? Oh yah and don't let snoogs drive!

I'm saying that my drive was 20 yds. past yours on that hole and by no way can I drive it 300yds unless it bounced down that hill. But since they don't seem to like true fairways in the middle of the lane, our 250+ drives landed in something that resembles rough where the fairways should have been.

What was worse, the greens on the back nine?
The fairway on #2?
Or the sand on the ruins par #3?
I check all of the above.

You guys should check out Farmstead Golf Course, I think it's in Landing. It has three nine hole courses that are pretty good and the 19th hole is decent. I thinkit's like $40.00 after 12:00 so it's fairly reasonable. I used to play there every week when I lived in Jersey. Does Great Gorge still have the GPS in the golf carts?
