Is the Bar 9 scene dying of natural causes? You know, I'd like to at least have the delusion that wild and crazy things are going on.

I swear to God, when I woke up in the middle of the night to take a piss, it occurred to me that board members were having a grand old time drinking, conversing, joking around, maybe even having consensual relations. And in some twisted way, I found this thought comforting as I took my piss and went back to bed.

And now I read this? Five people?! That bums me out. But I can't blame people for not going. Tuesday night - could there be a shittier night of the week to go out?

As students turn over, the hardcore regulars remain year after year, swilling dark liquor and playing darts. This bar was the home of Folk City for decades, and the likes of Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Judy Collins, Simon and Garfunkel and Bob Dylan began here - during those years, the Kettle was on MacDougal Street.
