for some reason the last thread was closed. and i didnt get to post the following which is so elequently written, i thought everyone should read it.

Results of a Thirty Year Experiment on Women
By Kathryn Hooks

Abortion has Failed Women

After a three-decade experiment initiated by Roe v. Wade, the results clearly show that abortion harms women.

America has polarized the abortion debate between the unborn child and the woman, but in reality abortion does not offer the best choice for either. A survey by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, research arm for Planned Parenthood, showed women primarily choose abortion because of lack of financial resources and lack of emotional support. Abortion appears to these women to be the only choice available. The false notion that abortion provides the best and easiest solution to an unwanted pregnancy deceptively misleads women.

The "Women Deserve Better" campaign supported by Feminists for Life among others claims that abortion has failed to meet the needs of women, and women deserve better than a "quick-fix" that ironically -- and sadly -- leaves women in a more harmful "fix" than previously experienced. Abortion changes a woman's perceived social inconvenience into a health detriment.

In fact, America should be concerned about abortion as a women's health issue.

According to a 1994 report by the Guttmacher Institute 43 percent of women will have an abortion by age 45; therefore the often unreported consequences of abortion affect almost half of the female population. Abortion has failed to offer a physically safe choice for women, and they deserve to know the facts.

The Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health stated, "Since 1957, evidence linking induced abortion to the later development of breast cancer has been observed in 27 of 33 studies world-wide." The International Journal of Cancer reported a higher risk of developing cervical and ovarian cancer after abortion.

The L.A. Daily News quoted pro-choice Dr. Janet Daling stating, "I have three sisters with breast cancer, and I resent people messing around with scientific data to further their own agenda, be they pro-choice or pro-life. I would have loved to have found no association between breast cancer and abortion, but our research is rock solid, and our data is accurate. It's not a matter of believing. It's a matter of what is."

Research by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons reported 6 percent of women who have abortions are left sterile. If a woman has an STD during an abortion, her risk for infertility increases. A study by the Journal of Infectious Diseases found 87 percent of women carrying one or more STDs showed no symptoms.

Southern Medical Journal reported that two years after an abortion women have a death rate twice as high as women who continue their pregnancy. Hospital codes only report a present cause of death such as hemorrhage, infection, or ectopic pregnancy not the underlying reason -- abortion -- so many deaths due to abortion go unreported.

The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology found abortion can lead to future pregnancy complications such as premature birth, placenta previa, and ectopic pregnancy.

Author Ann Saltenberger quotes medical researchers Margaret and Arthur Wynn, who support abortion-on-demand, acknowledging that "any patient who has had a previous history of abortion should be regarded as a high-risk patient."

Women frequently suffer psychological effects from abortion, which also link to more physical side affects. According to the Department of Education and the Alan Guttmacher Institute, as many as 91 percent of all abortions cause severe psychological problems, both immediate and long-term.

Yet, incredibly, abortion doctors fail to warn and prepare women for the psychological damage of post-abortion syndrome (PAS). PAS creates a psychological dysfunction from the traumatic experience of abortion resulting in intense fear, the feeling of helplessness or being trapped, and loss of con

Still unsure of her decision minutes before the procedure, she requested a few more moments to think about it as the doctor entered the room. Immediately the doctor said, "Shut her up" and turned on the loud machine.

Standard operation procedure.

Abortion, bypass, stomach stapling, hangnail, removing a lung...it's always the same. The doctor assholes the patient into complying. JUST WALKING DOLLAR SIGNS TO THEM!!! "Boo", I say...BOOOO!!!

DAMN YOU, DR. MENGELE!!!

http://www.hwrc.org/inthespirit/images/photo/36.jpg

Again, the opposition in this issue presents an "all or nothing" approach and the pro-choice side as simply and clearly "pro-abortion". One side offers an OPTION to people who MAY CHOOSE to use it at some time in their life. The other wants a decision made for ALL people at ANY time FOREVER.

Hey, abortions MAY cause breast cancer. Great. Cell phones MAY cause brain tumors. Abortion MAY cause suicide? Fantastic. Guns in a household make those living there more likely to kill themselves and/or other family members with said gun. Fight against those, too, dipshits. Quit presenting it like people are forcing women to have abortions. I know that seems like such an easy thing to assume, since they probably have no problem forcing women to have babies.

Eloquently written perhaps, but before posting evidence to support a claim, best to see that the research is current:

The Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health stated, "Since 1957, evidence linking induced abortion to the later development of breast cancer has been observed in 27 of 33 studies world-wide." The International Journal of Cancer reported a higher risk of developing cervical and ovarian cancer after abortion.

Eloquently written, but dead wrong. And if there is one glaring error in a piece, it doesn't bode well for the rest. The abortion-breast cancer link was iffy at best, at the political powers that be finally gave in to the scientific evidence and admit, simply, there is no evidence of a link.

From the Associate Press, March 7, 2003:

NCI tries to clear up Abortion-cancer link message

WASHINGTON (AP) -- There is no evidence that having an abortion increases the risk of getting breast cancer later in life, say scientific advisers to the National Cancer Institute.

Now the question is when the NCI will Upd@te its Internet "fact sheet" for women on the topic, which currently says the evidence isn't clear. That Upd@te will happen soon, an agency spokeswoman said Friday.

Until last year, that fact sheet said there appeared to be no link between abortion and breast cancer. But in November, after complaints from abortion opponents and members of Congress, the NCI replaced its patient information with the current statement suggesting confusion -- and called in outside experts to review the data.

Earlier this week, the NCI quietly posted the conclusion of those experts on its Web site: "Induced abortion is not associated with an increase in breast cancer risk," says the report. Neither is a miscarriage, it adds.

Don't abort this thread.

ALL threads are sacred.

johnnee shouldn't have posted like the post whore he is...but that doesn't mean the little thread should be killed just because he couldn't keep his hands on his junk where it belongs instead of on the computer! Why must this innocent, defenseless thread pay for his mistakes?!? He made the choice to post the thread...he should have to deal with it.

Thread-life is begun when the finger first touches the keyboard. Killing it any point after that is murder.

Why abort this thread when I'm sure it can have a nice new adopted home in the mod's room? It's safe there, and they always welcome unwated threads!

Let's just hope there isn't any back-alley editing! That's not very nice at all...

when a friend of the board is made to look bad and has no way to get herself out of a situation

oh really? I didn't make myself look bad, and you're the only person who seems to think I did. Arguing this with you is pointless.

BTW, most of that info posted is BS. Not only is is propoganda authored by a biased pro-life group, the data referenced is not current and vague. For example, the following quote:

If a woman has an STD during an abortion, her risk for infertility increases

Is an example of how the facts are twisted to make abortion look unsafe. A woman with an STD already has an increased rate of infertility... regardless of whether or not she has an abortion.

Abortion is 10x safer than childbirth, according to stats from the CDC, American Medical Association, and there is no abortion breast cancer link, according to the the American Cancer Society.

I'll post the links if anyone decides to refute that, but besides that, I'm stepping away from this. And if you have an issue with that Johnee, IM me... I have no need to rip you apart in a public forum.

No, Mojo, this thread should be aborted.

And you know what? Contrary to popular opinion, many people abort threads like this without any sort of adverse emotional response, or feelings of guilt.

I personally would never support an individual who does not support a moderator's right to choose to abort a thread. We're dealing with basic human rights here.
