The Bronx has the better zoo and I believe is considered the second best one in the states with San Diego's being on top.

I've never been to the DC zoo, so I can't compare it. The Bronx Zoo is a fantastic zoo. I was in San Diego many years ago and that was also a great zoo.

Oh please, since the additions of things like the Congo and Tiger Mountain, nothing beats the Bronx zoo. Not even the San diego zoo (which personally I thought that while it was quite large, it seemed somewhat dated, and the variety of animals was somewhat poor - as in every single other fucking paddock that you walked by was a herd of Sahran Dorcas Gazelles).

NYC's Aquarium is a total embarassment, however. There is talk of rebuilding a new one somewhere closer to Manhattan (like on Governor's Island I think) however with the budget as it currently is, who knows if they'll even get teh renovatiosn they have underway done?

Free admission everyday, like at the National Zoo in DC, perhaps?

I've never been to the Bronx Zoo, and from what I read here it sounds better, but I'm not in a position to judge. But don't waste your time or money on any aquarium other than the one in Baltimore, though.
