of course! especially patti smith, blondie, velvet underground, television, and the talking heads.

i'm especially in love with the music that came out of the no-wave scene of the late 1970s and all the awesome english punk bands like delta 5 and x-ray spex.

27 years ago today (Aug. 16, 1974), the Ramones played CBGB for the first time.

And every band you guys mentioned kicks ass! Old punks never die......

Speaking of CB's, check out Bankhead at 10pm on Aug 21.

I saw them at the Continental a few weeks ago and they rocked hard. The lead guitarist says, "Our stylings are punk rock with a touch of 70's arena rock and this fucked up hint of southern rock that seems to creep in no matter what we do."

I think Listen.com's description on the band's site is more accurate ("Power Poppin' rock songs with equal parts '77 Punk and New Wave").

Seeing those band names brought back lots of memories. I never went to the New York clubs to see them, but I saw the Plasmatics at A Hole the Wall in and Iggy Pop at the Meadowbrook, in New Jersey. I had forgotten all about them. Thanks for helping me remember. Gotta love Richard Hell and the Void Oids "Love Comes in Spurts"

Long live Stiv! By the way, I remember going on a double date to see Rock 'N' Roll High School. What a cool chick I had 20 years ago!

And if you guys are intent on taking the Ramones as your official band, I'm calling dibs on the Clash right now.

So many Ramones memories.
Going to the premier of "Rock and Roll High School" at the 8th Street Playhouse.
Going to Irving Plaza and standing outside for an hour in the rain and having heard that the show was canceled. We went to a bar on 14th Street and met Johnny, who bought us pitchers.
Listening to The Ramones on WPIX-FM.(now it's CD 101)
Seeking out the Live Album which was an import from England("Its Alive")..kicked ass!

Heckler,

My Ramones double live album is an import from Portugal, of all places. And the only R n R High School soundtrack I can find on CD is an import from Germany, but it's never available. Let me know if you know where I can get a copy.

were too wussy to go with me!)
Bauhaus
The Replacements (not so "punK
but they're one of my favorite

The Buzzcocks
Husker Du
Lords of the New Church (saw
them at Lamour Far East)
The Fall

Those are always allowed. My honey is looking for his Ramones CD's to put them in the car. If he does that, I won't get to listen for a good month cuz they'll never come back in the house. Shhh... don't tell, I hid the CD's. ;) They're mine now.

I saw some great shows there, like Billy Idol and Joan Jett.

I was thinking about CBGB back in the late 70's. I saw some great shows there, one of them being Television, a band that in my opinion was vastly underrated. I remember the place being packed, and Hilly the owner saying he was afraid the Fire Department may come and shut him down..it was a great show!

I was never to CBGB's but always wanted to go. Especially around when the NYHC scene was filled with the new comers of Warzone, Murphys law, Sick Of It All all and some others. We down here in Philly always went to the Trocadero. It was kind of like our club for punk shows down here. Now the First Unitarian Church is the place for some of the best shows. The only thing with Philly is everything gets shut down sooner or later. I remember a few years back trying to go see Avail and the doors to the 4040 got bolted shut. Now THAT sucked. Closest I ever got to a CBGB's show would have to be Agnostic Front, H2O and Maximum Penalty at the Wetlands.

OH YEAH!!!

Country Blue Grass and Blues
(CBGB)
and

Other Music For Uplifting Gormandizers (OMFUG)

Unfortunately, I'm not old enough to have been there in it's real heydey, but I'd say I've been there about 40 times.

My favorite band of all time:

The Replacements

Other fine shows:

The Jesus Lizard
Agnostic Front
Treepeople
Goo Goo Dolls (old)
Heatmiser
Paw
Dinosaur Jr.
Monkey Wrench
SONIC YOUTH (of course).

oh, too many to mention.

What about the Continental? Great shows there too. The Waldos alone made it a required destination, along with Seamonster.

cbgb many a night of fun there sunday afternoons
agnostic front was my fav band to see there
the wetlands was another great place i saw madball play and the last song was crucafied and rodger merit came out and sang with his little brother(A.F. had been broken up for some time then what a treat)
i cant remember if it was wetlands of cbgb but there was a benifet for the family of raybeez(singer of warzone who passed away) and alot of old school bands cameout and played
But the best place in the world(at least NJ)was
the pipeline
allmost every thursday night for about 5 years was spent at this club the only thing that sucked was that it was in the middle of a bad area of newark
i got to see minor threat play a couple of songs at city gardens in trenton when fugazi played with sheer terror wow that was great
stonepony was always fun tons of riots there but fury of 5 played there alot and the singer james ismean was always getting me in
alot of other places and bands but cant remember all of them if any one was at any of these shows let me know its nice to talk about the good old times beatting the shit out of each other

In D.C., the old 9:30 club was a great venue. One of my regrets from the old days was letting my new bride talk me outta goig up to NYC to see Wendy-O Williams and someone else good. I got to see the Ramones on their first tour opening for Iggy at the Baltimore Civic Center and that was quite a thrill. I never thought of Blondie as a punk band. They were more new wave to me, like Talking Heads and B52's. Can anyone confirm that when Patti Smith fell off the stage and broke her neck, that she was trying to walk on a beam of light that she thought she saw?

By far the first in a lon gline of "shock" rock or punk as the case my be. I will never forget seeing the GG Allin video HATED which was just nauseating at points. EGH! I was never a fan but respect (I guess you could call it that) what he did.

Philly has a long tradition of DIY booked clubs. First Unitarian is great. There was a run of all the stuff getting shut down- Stalag became 4040 became the Rotunda- and they all got shut down. I saw one of the Nerve Agents last shows at the Rotunda in some really unbearable heat. There is a string of places that R5 seems to book shows at pretty successfully, that dont seem to be going anywhere, and a few houses too.

The best all-ages punk rock shows in SW Michigan were usually held on the campus of W. Michigan U. I saw Black Flag and The Minutemen there. Then there was Club Soda, which was harder to get in. And the State Theater where I saw Soul Asylum open for Husker Du. Soul Asylum was fast and hard then.

Saw a million great shows at the old 9:30 club in DC. The Meatmen, the Dickies, Bad Brains, Fugazi, Snakefinger, Lene Lovich...And saw a few at the "new" 9:30 club, too: Sex Pistols (reunion tour), Iggy, New York Dolls, Devo. There were more but my brain is old.
The colleges around here would put on great concerts as well. The most memorable was P.I.L. during their Happy? tour. The stage set was beautiful.
