Who do you think is the best bands out there now? I've narrowed it down to 5.

(in no particular order)

Brand New
Alkaline Trio
The Bouncing Souls
Dr0pkick Murphys
Weezer

Dr0pkick is a good call but what about :Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals? Robert Randalph and the Family Band?

I'd like to say Weezer or H2O, seeing as theyre my favorite bands, but I just cant. Both have fallen from what they used to be. I do have faith that both will return the superbands they were, in my head, 3 years ago.

Best band is too tough to decide. So many bands "touch" me in different ways, it's hard to narrow down to 5 or ever 10.

most people know my fave band. but best band now in my eyes is almost impossible. there are too many different kinds to choose from and most of it sounds the same.
weezer is a decent choice, im gonna add an unorthadox one, but what about Cake. yea no one will agree but they are probably the only band around doin something no one else is, and its nice to her shit that doesnt sound like every other song

nothing more really needs to be said. but, if i were to say more, i'd also add:

radiohead
the walkmen
desaparecidos

what about Cake. yea no one will agree but they are probably the only band around doin something no one else is, and its nice to her shit that doesnt sound like every other songthat's a good choice. i am definitely a cake fan myself. i just don't know that they've done anything in a while, so i don't know that i would consider them to be "out there now". good call, though

the last album they released was 2001, and thats been about ever 2-3 years they have released one. they are about to kick off a tour with among others, cheap trick. i think they are puttin another album out after that

bouncing souls are good now? man... they have just gotten more horrible through the years... their last good album was the guinness looking cover... the more "hard" one.

i remember seeing them back here at home in new brunswick in 94... when during "quotes from our favorite 80's movies" we would all get the mic and recite our favorite quote from our favorite 80's movie"

and also, when they would play PMRC with no hesitation.

my fav bands of today:

1. Blood For Blood
2. Transplants
3. E.G.H
4. Settle The Score

Thats all i can think of that has "tickled my fancy" as of late.

Sheer Terror also is still my all time favorite band. and no matter what anyone says, is the best band ever... and i will fight whomever you are to the death about it! girl or guy, big or small...

because;

I CANT STAND LIVING
I CANT STAND YOU
AND I JUST CANT HATE ENOUGH

Beatles
Zeppelin
Weezer
Van Halen (back in the day)
Metallica (back in the day)
Aerosmith (back in the day)
Rolling Stones (back in the day)
Pearl Jam (Just the first album, sorry folks)
Tenacious D (thought they would be bigger by now)
Nirvana/Foo Fighters (It's all a blur to me, but it's sounds great)

You seem to have some trouble understanding the phrase "out there now."

Well, all the bands I mentioned keep putting out records/dvds (well, maybe not Van Halen since they got rid of their third singer and don't look like they are planning to get a forth) so I still think of them as out there now)

But, if you mean "new" bands, they suck!

I guess my list of "newish" bands would be:

Weezer
Foo Fighters (I'm sick of that one song on their last album, stations in DC played it to death)
Metallica (they're a 20 year old band, god, I'm old!)

Not impossible Niner, just a little tricky. Here's my list, which is impossible for me to cut down due to the range of styles.

Spoon (no joke, creative mix of music)
Tegan and Sara (Canadian twins, good song writing)
Our Lady Peace (Excluding the last CD produced by Metallica chump, get this name, Bob Rock)
Radiohead (Second and Third CDs are top twenty of all time for me)
Rilo Kiley (Liz Phair of old style)
Stereophonics (Brit Band)
Sigur Ros (Ambient music)
Lucero (Cracker meets Bush, seriously)
Ben Kweller (Talented kid)
Universal Remote (Female led Rutgers band)
Mathew Good Band (Another Canadian band)
Four Tet (Mazzy Star meets Portishead at a Sigur Ros convention)
God Lives Underwater (Stabbing Westward vs. NIN minus the pure hate)
Eels (Crazy man led trio)
Chevelle (Toolish sound sold short due to Krock play)
Bird 3 (Cool variety of sounds)
Tori Amos (Came back strong with last few CDs, I just like her stuff)
Jimmy Eat World (especially the older shit)

And that's my polish five best current bands!
