National Do Not Call Registry

i just registered oufr home phone numbers with the National Registry. Just curious if anyone else has and if so does it seem to be working efficiently?

I registered about a month ago. I got a call the other day from the Virginia State Police for whatever that thing is that they do that they always want money for. I forgot to yell at him that I was on the do not call registry, but I wonder if "non-profit" orgs are exempt from the thing.

I'm pretty sure the deadline to get on the list is not the same as the date when the law goes into effect; I do know the do not call site is getting slammed, I'm pretty sure it's later this year it officially goes into effect, hence I'm still getting calls and I registered months ago

I think it takes affect in October, but I didnt take the time to sign up, but I only get a telemarketer call every few months, because I always tell them "take me off your list".

someone told me there's like 6 ways around it legaly, and that it wont really stop the calls. maybe slow them down a bit.

You can continue to sign up after today, but if you do you will not be on the list published in October. Future lists will be Upd@ted every three months.

Also New York has had a do not call list for a year or so and I gotta admit it has really cut the number of calls to almost zero. Odd thing though Car Dealers and Insurance companies are exempted as are political and not for profit orgs. Part of the new law says they must ID themselves immediately and let you know this is a sales call.

Also a new unsolicited fax rule was supposed to go into effect August 25. Meaning that they needed your signature to prove you wanted the faxes. (No more sketchy "previous business relationship". That has now been postponed till January 2nd. So I will still get the 15 faxes a week offering me Disneyland Vacations, stock tips and free seminars on how to add three inches to my back hair.
