It would work something like this:
There would be a specified time period, maybe a week, when members could nominate either their own or others' posts for consideration. After this a crack comittee, perhaps the mods and admins, would vote on and narrow down the submissions to maybe 10 or 20 or whatever. Then they would have a thread where the posts would be linked and we, the members, could vote on the one we thought was the best. They would have to set it up so that you could only vote once, I really don't vote in the polls on the board so I don't know if that's already in effect or not.

Once again, after the specified voting time period was over, the winner would be crowned. They would hold this title for a time period. Maybe a month, maybe a year. During this time they would be given Mod privileges to edit other peoples' posts or some such prize. Not to erase what they had written, just to add funny comments or suggestions or whatever they chose. When their time was over, the process would begin again and a new "Best Poster" would be crowned.

I think this would add a lot of fun to an already great message board experience, really give people a chance to show off, and give us all an appreciation of some of the great, funny people that are members here.

No, I don't think it's too broad. You can micro-manage anything down to minutia. You could say, "best post about music? what kind? what instrument? what note? Is this the best c flat or f sharp ever played?" It gets silly after a while. For this contest, you read the thread the post is in and judge it based on that context. That's not such a difficult concept. It doesn't have to be that complicated.

There have been times when I've read a post and said to myself, "Wow, that was the best (funny, witty, well thought out, intelligent, etc.) response. I can only assume others have done the same. I don't say, "Hey, this is the best post about a movie I've ever read." The point is this, whatever criteria you have to judge the merits of someone's post, that's what you use.
