From cnn:
The northern eyewall of Hurricane Fabian nudged Bermuda Friday afternoon, pounding the island with 100-mph and heavy rain. Winds gusting to near 140 mph were still offshore. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Henri pushed toward Florida's Gulf Coast, threatening severe flooding on already-soaked parts of the Sunshine State.
This is serious.
1. It's early in the hurricance season
2. We are coming off one of the most usual summers, weather-wise, in years. Precip and temp fluctuations are becoming more chaotic
3. We've been riding the odds, and have been WAY overdue. The Northeast has been hit with some good storms, but Nothing like what hit decades ago. Like LA and the San Andreas Fault, it's just a matter of which year? Which storm?
And as an aside, a hurricane is about one of the most powerful events that Mother Nature sends our way.
Hurricanes literally shake the earth. In the BOOK 'The Perfect Storm' by Sebastian Junger; he talks of seismologists registering the energy of a hurricane this is literally on the other side of the planet. They make our nuclear arsenals look like cap guns. Think about the amount of energy needed to move air and water at such speeds.
It literally makes me shudder. Let's hope everyone is ok.
Fez and I are fellow native Floridians, and it looks like Pinellas Parks getting slammed. Lemme tell you, it is no fun in FLA during this...
