I watched AMC's showing of Planet of the Apes, and they stated that the ending of the movie ("GOD DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!!!!") was much different in the book. Can anyone tell me what the ending to the book was. I know the movie was based on the work of a French author.

Well, the entire sort of premise of the book was kind of different, as the story that is told (very loosely) in the movie is kind of told as a story in the story told by the book... er, well you'll just have to go read it. It's by Boulle (his first name was probably Pierre, I think)

SPOILER ALERT :-)

anyway - the book was somewhat more like the end of the "Markie Mark and the Monkey Bunch" version. The astronaut makes it home, to be greeted by a soldier in a jeep - who turns out to be an ape. Seems that this sort of evolution of apes taking over is commonplace in the universe. Then we find out the 2 people who are reading this tale about the astronauts on the other planet are scoffing at the end, as they too are apes.

Different but sort of lame too.

Then there is another jungle?

ZAIUS
(shrugs; then, sardonically)

Of course, you could return with
us. Our society might find a
place for you and your mate.

TAYLOR

Sure. In a cage.

ZAIUS

Where else, but in a cage, does
man belong?

TAYLOR

No, thanks. I'll take freedom.

novel concept, if it says the ending is different than the book, instead of taking this time and asking and then trusting that no one was fuckin with you, you coulda just got a copy of the book and read the last chapter
