I have psoriasis which is a skin condition, my skin gets red and blotchy and painful at times. It only affects my face, and it's really annoying. I've tried various things to try and stop it. Some medications will work for weeks, but it always comes back. It also comes back whenever the seasons change. On the hottest day or the coldest days are the worst for me.

Then my mom showed me this article she found in Newsday (see below), I'm curious if anyone else has tried this (if you have the same problem), or if there's things you use to combat it as well...

Eating Turmeric on Cereal Helped Psoriasis Sufferer

Q. A few months ago you wrote about turmeric being used for boils and also being studied for treating arthritis and cancer. This bit of information has changed my life.

I've suffered with psoriasis on nearly half of my body for 25 years. I've seen many physicians and tried every medication and ultraviolet treatment.

I bought some turmeric and sprinkled a rounded teaspoonful on my cereal.

I continued the regimen daily, and the results are unbelievable! After 10 days, the awful itching and bleeding had ceased. Now, five months later, I have no psoriasis.

A. Turmeric, a spice in curry, is popular in India. In this country, yellow mustard often contains some turmeric. We can't explain why this herbal medicine helped your psoriasis. Curcumin, the active ingredient, has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Researchers are studying this compound in conditions as diverse as Alzheimer's disease, arthritis and certain cancers.

Have you asked you primary care physician or dermotoligist about it, they might be able to answer your questions re: the matter.

Think HAPPY thoughts. Welcome EVERYONE! Ron and Fez love you..............No this is not a cult.

I use Elocon cream, which among all of them works the best. It can clear the skin and keep it clear for weeks.

Not to promote anyone, but this (http://www.americanherbalcompany.com/proddetail.cfm?prodid=200&brandid=7) site has "ask the herbalist" area. I use some herbs to treat various aliments to some effect. They have tumeric powder in some of the dot-head stores in Hicksville.

I had this "vision" today, of sprinking Turmeric into a face cream with zink oxide powder and mixing it up.

I am going to try TURMERIC capsules to clear up Psoriasis but wonder how many capsules per day some of you are taking. The Psoriasis has come and gone with me for about 18 years. It cleared up for about 7 years totally then came back worse than ever. Been to many doctors, tried prescription meds and tanning beds, etc. I just pray to be healed and use herbal ointments which sometimes help.

For me personally I think it has helped me. I've used it in addition to my medication and my skin has been much clearer. I also went about 2 weeks without using it and just my medication and my skin got blotchy. I find I don't have to use as much medication and as often when I take the tumeric. I know of a friend at work who was also using it and it was working for him, though his doctor told him not to use it. I guess it's a judgement call you'll have to make. Whatever you do, check with your doctor/dermatologist first before trying anything though. Even though it has worked well for me, I don't know if the same result will be for you. Best of luck to you though.

Try adding a little mace.
