Well, this firm is banning the use of email company wide saying it will boost productivity by almost 1.6 million a month.

On one hand I think that would be great just because we have to deal with email so much, but it also forces you to have human interaction and we all know our generation is not very good at that.

There are many instances where it is abused - a back and forth email on something where a face to face or some sort of blog makes more sense. Draconian banning of ALL email though doesnt make sense - sometimes you need confirmation (CYOA) or an audit trail for things - a blanket "no" to email will just result in "email like" systems popping up to fill that void.

All E-mail banned? So they're cool with you getting up from your work area to get in the elevator and go down to someone everytime you need to exchange some sort of info that you can't just phone down? I don't get it.

They'll be giving it back soon after the initial ban.

LONDON (Reuters) - The owner of one of Britain's biggest mobile phone chains has declared war on e-mail, banning staff from sending electronic missives to co-workers in a move he says will save the company millions of pounds each year.

The joke's on him - emails don't weigh anything. Duh!

At the hight of that recent email worm, my company was particularly hard hit and it was a real pain in the ass. Since then, they added an intense firewall and now if my coworker sends me an email, it takes like 10 minutes to pop up! I suppose its for the best, but when you really need data, its a hassle. At least we have it though. I bet if they took it away, and then they complained about the personal phone calls, there would be an uproar.

Well, I didn't have the luxury of email while teaching Double Displacement reactions in chem lab. Neither do the people on The Line in the auto plants.

There are jobs that use computers and those that dont. Those that don't simply dont email others during work, seems simple enough, and never bothered me.

I'm not talking inter-office official business, but that should Never be handled in general email, for several reasons of security and privacy.

And there are numbers out recently, which I will go look for instead of just saying 'there are numbers' about how Huge the email problem is in businesses, in the large volume, in lost productivity, in abuse.

Lemme go look...
