you my friend, are way off base. wine tasting is fucking awesome. it's a cheap date to take a chick on, it's pretty simple to tlak like you know what you're talking about, and you can get shit faced for $10.

i've taken may a trips out to the eastern end of li with my chick, hit 10 or so wineries in an afternonn- they're all 5 minutes apart. the people pouring the wine tell you the about the wines, then you just spout what they said at the next place. chicks love a sophisticated man. yeah!

You don't have to be a wine expert; but working at a Buy-Rite for a few years helps.

Soleo is still around.

So you can ask everyone else questions? That's what this forum is for. Besides, we've all seen Wayne's World II so we all know that Rob Lowe alread answered your first question :)

As for Soleo: Although like a Bordeaux or yes, Mike, a Champagne (and unlike, say, a Pinot Noir), Soleo is a blend of wine varieties (although it is not defined as coming from any particular region of the world), as far as I can tell from the way that it is marketed, it is really one small step above a wine cooler, meant to be drunk very chilled and over ice.

I don't consider it "gay" or "girly"; It's all a matter of having acquired a taste for it, just as it is for just about anything.

Damn right Monsterone... A wine tasting party makes a great date. A woman will love it because it is different than your typical bar or restaurant, plus if she's cool, it's fun to mix with the "wine connoisseurs" and make fun of them afterwards.

I was never a wine drinker until I stopped by Napa Valley to visit a friend who worked out there. After visiting some wineries I became a fan and now drink it regularly, much to the dismay of my co-workers.

I need to clarify myself - I don't consider drinking wine gay or girly. I do, however, consider drinking Soleo totally fruity. Don't do it! (sorry, Suttter Home. But I'm sure the business you get from cheap chinese restaurants will keep you in business)

I like santaria. That's a form of wine, right? It's at least a kind of drink, I know that much, because once I switched a glass of santaria with a glass of gasoline when I was having dinner with my uncle and just before he was lit on fire he said, "what kind of drink is this?" Well, damned if I knew, I didn't say I knew the different brands of gasoline; just different kinds of drinks. Damned if I knew...

Booze Chemistry Trivia: Why do they always pour the booze in first and then the mixer???

Is it so that the mixer will do just that and mix the drink while being poured.....If you were to put the booze in afterwards it would just sit at the top of the drink...i think

or

because there is ice in the glass it makes it appear as though the 'tender is putting more liquor in the drink than he actually is....if she was to put the mixer in first the patron would see that it was almost to the top of the glass and feel that he wasn't getting his money's wurf

my guess is that neither of these are correct

Wine is good stuff. As TooCute already hinted, a sparkling wine is only a champage if it comes from the Champagne region of France.

<center><img src = http://users.skynet.be/winelabelsworld/images/france.gif></center>

Champagnes are usually a blend of white grapes; most often consisting of chardonnay and pinot noir. Supposedly, Dom Perignon, a French monk, accidentally invented champagne by fermenting wine unintentionally due to the yeast becoming dormant during the cold temperatures of the winter months. The story goes that he noticed some of the bottles had exploded (due to the build-up of carbon dioxide), tasted a bottle, and exclaimed that he was "drinking stars."

As far as wine goes, I prefer an inexpensive beaujolais at room temperature, although it's supposed to be slightly chilled.

If you really want to test HK's knowledge, go here. (http://www.google.com)

Soleo was introduced by Sutter Home after their first super success White Zinfandel. It was introduced to brink into the wine market a segment of the population that wasnt particularly drawn to wine. Zinfandel provided a good "gateway" taste that many who were not regular wine drinkers accepted and they started drinking it. My wifes family make home made wine from grapes that they buy in huge bushels and crush and filter and store in barrels till it ferments. I find it thick and kinda bitter, but its very powerfull! Soleo was introduced to appeal to the Hispanic market the way Zinfandel was used to appeal to yuppies of the early 80's. Last I heard Soleo wasnt doing so hot, but its still around.

I've tried the Cisco. When it first came out (early 90s), a lot of people were up in arms because it was packaged like a wine cooler, but was of a much higher alcohol content. The local news labeled it as "liquid crack." Sadly, that was enough to make my friends and I want to try it. As I recall, it was pretty terrible.

HAHAHAHAHA! Same as my friends and I.

Also, I used to go to Hackensack from Cliffside just to pick up a few bottles of "Night Train" which wasn't available in my neighborhood. Cisco was bought in North Bergen at the liquor store across the street from "Chicken Delight".
