Instead, why don't they consider rounding up all the Arabs into internment camps like they did with the Japs in the forties. America is under attack, and we need to do whatever it takes to protect ourselves.

Because we DIDN'T round up all the "Japs". And that's especially moot here since we had a couple thousand of them fighting in our armed forces at the time.

so apparently this isnt the only case of spying going on at the moment. I herd on the news that a translater for the US has been charged with some type of spying, and now someone in the NAVY is under investigation for treason. What I want to know is how these people got into the military and how the military didnt find any ties to other forgien countries and so on. How does someone with a name like "Mohomad Ahnidmobar" NOT get closly investigated during these times where terrorism can and has shown could happen at any moment?

I'd just like to point out that we don't have any substantial information and because of the Patriot Act, we'll never really know what the evidence was against these and the many other people being held without counsel.

Oh thats any asy one to answer. Its because of people like half the posters in this thread. God forbid we, a free country question "Mohomad Ahnidmobar" simply because hes Arab or practices Islam. The second we do that, we become

fear-mongering racists

I like the way the Guantanamo prisoners would rap on the bunk bed to get to the tunnel where they had the radio and other cool stuff.

They got onto the chaplain when they intercepted a bunch of wireless communications between "Mama Bear" and "Papa Bear."

Oddly enough I don't see anyone in the thread opposed to questioning Arabs or Muslims, and certainly not those that are going to be working with or around suspected terrorists. There is an ex-board member calling for internment camps, and that's the only post that had the term racist directed at it. So let's try to keep the hyperbole to the minimum.

Some, yes, as is to be, unfortunately, expected But not "all" or even "most".

I'm all for investigating people who, for better or for worse, fall under the suspect category because of their ethnic background or religious make up because those are unfortunately key factors in what's threatening us today. But primarily in situations like THIS where millitary and intelligence resources are at risk, not on the average citizen who happens to have an Arab parent or something. And definitely this is NOT "proof" that we need to remove any one group from the millitary or our society at large. For every one douche like this you have at least a million other people somehow like him that won't ever do anything against us.

the Patriot Act has no bearing on the military code of justice and their proceeding. And even if he were a civilian, he'd still be givien counsel because he's a citizen, not an alien.

You're right, it's not the patriot act I meant to refer to. It's actually not even an act or law that I'm aware of.

This makes me uneasy (http://www.csmonitor.com/2002/0619/p01s02-usju.html)

It can happen and has happened to US citizens.

We weren't prepared for 9-11, and obviously reacting to it and attempting to prevent terrorism here isn't going to be easy. However, we have to find a way to strike a balance between safeguarding our lives and safeguarding our rights.

I'm more concerned with the fact that as soon as an allegation is made, the general public accepts it as fact. The whole manner that the investigations into terrorism have been carried out mimick McCarthy era tactics and sometimes remind me of the Salem witch trials.

The need for secrecy isn't disputed, but the need for secrecy cannot outweigh the need for due process. If we as a public do not require anything more than suspicions or allegations from our leaders, then we do a great disservice to our country.

Wrong.
The guy (Pedilla?) Ashcroft said was gonna blow us up with a "dirty bomb" is a citizen and hasn't seen counsel, and there's at least one other guy who hasn't either.
