Chinese Birth Ratio

Someone asked me this previously and I didn't have exact figures until now.

There are 117 male births for every 100 reported female births in China (that's post infanticide) so figure 17% of Chinese girls are killed at birth.

It amazes me when I do an
ultrasound on a Chinese
woman with her first unborn
child and when I tell them
it's a girl, their faces are
unchanged and somber.
That's when they go down
the alley and have the good
ole hanger abortion. The
ratio of aborted dead
female Chinese fetuses is
outrageous. Why would
they want to kill off females?
We're better off in life
anyways. :)

EFFMEBOOBS - Is a cultural phenomenon.

Traditionally, upon marriage a woman leaves her parents home almost completely, and becomes part of the guys family, under the authority of the guy's mother. She contributes to her husband's family income and most often takes care of his parents as they age.

A girl baby is sadly viewed as an economic liability b/c the parents pay the cost of her upbrining only to lose her economic earning potential when she marries.

This is a cultural not a biological preference.
