My first wife's father couldn't stand me..he said that it was because iIwasn't the same race as him but I knew the real reason. A couple of months before I met his daughter, I gave him a couple of summon's on Christmas Eve for a few traffic violations!!!!! When I met him formally after that, he asked me if I remembered him...I said "Sure....did you pay those summonses?" I'm such a nice guy!!!!

You cant MAKE someone like you. But, its important in the relationship that your partner get along with people you care about for your sake. My brother in law is a prime example. He rubbed my parents rhubarb the wrong way when they met him, because he didnt give a fuck. But, my sister is very much into "the family" and put presure on him to try and get along and for her sake, he basically transformed himself and is now well liked which made my sister happy. But if your partners parents resist being supportive of you and the relationship, there is not much you can do to bury the hatchet. Either that or youll have to move to another coast!

My boyfriend is Puerto Rican/Spanish, and his father is very hard headed and set in his ways. I don't know if it is that he doesn't like me, but I feel this tension between the two of us. I was thinking it may be that it is because I am not hispanic. I was sitting in the car with Jimmy, and his father keys him up. The father asks, "are you alone?" So Jimmy picks up to see what his father has to say. I just hear Jim's end of the conversation," ...no, dad, I'm taken." So I raise my eyebrows and wait to hear what father dearest had to say. It seems that he is trying to get Jimmy to marry some woman so she can get her green card (hahahaha) and get paid six thousand dollars for doing so. Are you fucking kidding me? It sounds just like a Lifetime move to me. Oh yes, and when I see his parents, his mother talks to me, but daddy dearest just stares at me and starts talking to Jimmy. He even went as far as to ask Jim's friend if I am a good person. Whatever! I usually am good with parents, so this threw me off. It doesn't help that he is very tempermental, always thinks he is right, is 64 years old, and working on his sixth wife (OK Henry the VIII). So my advice-- say, "fuck it," smile politely, and avoid contact with them as much as possible.

Well after several years of dating a person I found out that persons Mom despised me with everything she had...And I wasn't even supposed to find out,. That was a fucking shocker...almost fell off my chair. kind of wierd when you thought that person liked you.
What can you do? Just be who you are...Life is not a popularity contest...fuck the people that dont know what they are missing by not getting to know you because they have some pre-concieved notion of who you might be or what you are like.

I just met my boyfriend's parents this past weekend.. I was nervous, but he was more nervous since he'd never brought home a girl to meet his family..
So.. as soon as I got there.. his mom gave me a hug and a kiss.. his dad was a bit more shy.. but still talked to me.

They cooked a nice, big, puertorican dinner.. (Matthew even told me that his dad was scrubbing and waxing floors).. it's something RICAN families do when an "important" guest will be visiting the house..

The entire time Matthew was very quiet and looking down (later on he confessed that while I was having a conversation with his mom, he stared at me and had to control himself from kissing me.. ain't that sweet??).. yeah.. so His mom and I were very chatty.. I think she especially enjoyed the fact that I knew how to speak spanish fluently and that I held my end of a funny/witty conversation...
At one point.. when Matt left the kitchen to look for some photos.. she snuck in the "EMPLOYMENT" and "BENEFITS" question.. I was very proud of my answer, especially after seeing her knodd and put a "wow, impressive" face..

Funny thing is.. our relationship is very new.. we know each other 2 yrs.. he's been trying to get w/ me for all that time and I just considered him a "player".. nothing to take seriously.. then we talked as friends and it progressed from there.. we started to hang out more every weekend and on 10/5, we became official..
Anyway.. since it's a fairly new relationship, Matt didn't want to introduce me as his "GF" just yet, til they got to see me more and got to know me..etc.. so I was there and had to act like his "FRIEND"!!..

It was funny to see how we both would flinch everytime I slipped and said "HUN" or "BABY"..haha.. I had a great time.. I ended up sleeping over.. I fell asleep on his bed and he didnt wake me.. and it was too late to travel back to the City from the Island.. so he said that they wouldn't mind..
I was very very worried about this, cause PuertoRican families look down upon this "TYPE" of behavior.. me just meeting them for the first time and sleeping on their son's bed and then staying over.. anyway.. the next day, they were both very pleasant, she handed me towels to shower.. they made breakfast (which I missed from oversleeping) and dinner, and they said the next time I go, I should bring a change of clothes and I would be sleeping in the guest room, instead of having Matt sleep on the floor..

What am I getting at??.. I dunno. just wanted to share that story..

I did meet my Ex' parents in NJ, and I hated the entire time.. I was not at all comfortable. I didn't feel welcome, it was just a bad experience..

My mother despised one of my ex-girlfirends. Dispised. I never knew why until after we broke up a year and a half later, she didn't like that she was Korean.
I never paid my mothers view much attention when I didn't know why she was freaking. I let her have her huff and puff moments and went to go out to hang with my girlfriend. I was able to convince my girlfriend to ignore it. I told her that our time was with each other, not my mother or her thoughts about us.
Funny thing is, all these years later, she sees that girlfriend as the best girl I ever went out with. Isn't it ironic. Don't you think? A little too ironic. And yeah, I really do think, it's like rrr......ahhh, I'm punching out Mavrick.

I love it. I forgot about this thread, and then it comes back again and it seems that the "Fuck It Doctrine" is in full effect.

It's all about being confident in who you are and knowing that you try to be the best person you can be. So when some asshole comes along and dislikes you for being a certian race, creed, color, class or religion or any other stupid reason at all, FUCK 'EM!

It's a common thing to say but it really is their loss. If they don't want to get to know the great person you are an have their life bettered by just experiencing your prescence, then they are truly at a loss.

And a good Crotch Chop followed with a SUCK IT helps too!
