Dear Oracle,
Do you know if there are any famous black people in country music?
In rap, white people got Eminem. Do black people have anyone equivalent like this in country music?
Thanks.

A few years back there was a guy named Cleve Francis.
Incidentally he was a heart surgeon beofre he started singing.
I think he may have gone back to that gig because I havent seen his name in years.

I've heard a LOT of classic blues artists from the last 100 years who were basically just playing a form of "country"...maybe black artists in that style were just automatically considered "blues" for much of the early 20th century?

I guess it depends on what is considered country.
To me, country has to have that twang of the steel guitar.
A lot of the stuff that they've called country over the past few years ( Shania Twain, Faith Hill, etc .. ) is basically pop with a " country singer "
But some of it, by guys like Travis Tritt, Toby Keith and all could be considered southern rock.
