Why the hell can't it be both ways? Can't this guy have his marriage somehow ended because of the situation AND her parents keep her on life-support?
And is the husband really as much of a scumbag as the parents seem to think? He didn't petition to have the life support ended until EIGHT YEARS after she collapsed. Is it really that much of a stretch to think she wouldn't recover at that point?
Well, regardless, I still don't see why he can't get out and the parents keep the woman on life-support.

I agree. It's been over 10 years now. Life goes on. The husband's life should be allowed to move on. It is a shame for her, but that is no way to live.
Vegetablism
I thought this was going to be about some sexual fetish.

i didnt read it cause im a stoned lazy bastard, but based on it, 10 fuckin years is a long time. if she woulda died when she collapsed, if he wasnt dating within 2-5 years after people would start to be like get back into it man, and since she has basically been dead, im sure after 5 years of waiting he naturally emotionally started moving on. once you hit like 10 years, is the ridiculously slim chances of recovery worth the hardship it causes after that long

Would anyone want their loved one to sit next to their bed for ten years squeezing mashed bananas into their feeding tube just to keep their eyes blinking? There needs to be some reason and compassion shown for the living as well as the brain-dead here. Beside's, I got a feeding tube for her. Huddla huddla!

There has to be a way to fix this so that both sides get their way, but the courts must be afraid that anything that they do would set a precident for scummier people out there in the future.

The courts are afraid to touch things like this because of the real lack of separation of Church and State - the Church says it's murder, so the State says it's murder.
sad, very sad story

It's time for the parents to give this up. All they are doing is prolonging this woman's suffering.

the problem is, even with a living will, a family member or even a stranger with an ax to grind can fight it in court.

That video has been moved here. And here's my living will: If I ever end up in the condition this woman is in, which is simply suffering, one of you fuckers better show up in the hospital with an axe handle to make sure my lights get put out.

So is this guy trying to snuff her because he wants to be able to marry again or does he claim to feel she is suffering and wants to end her pain for her?
If it's not the latter, why doesn't he just hand off responsibility to the girl's parents since they seem to want it so bad? Or to the state, since they have no trouble stepping in?

Hey, Jeb Bush wants the political brownie points for wading into this mess, let him put her up in his rumpus room.

This is getting to be the ugliest incident I have ever seen.
i don't think this has to do with him getting married again, because If it did, I'm sure the courts would just end the marriage.
I think this really has to do with her caught between life and death. She said that she wanted to die. Let her die.
Oh, and bullah bullah for Jeb bush for ramrodding a law into place in order to overrule a court decision. why don't you jizz on the judge's robe too?

it's both. From what I read, he had a chance to keep up her therapy and she had a chance of a partial recovery - he stopped this therapy and she declined. Now the whole "right to die" issue is being dragged in front of the court as her parents do not want to lose her, and he's given up and wants her to die (for good or for bad). I'm still not sure what his motive is - if he wanted to just walk away from her and let her parents deal with it that's what he should have done (and probably would have done if he has nothing to gain from this). If he truely cares for her, he would want her to die (which is how he's acting, so I'm not sure of his motives). If he is gaining something financially over this, then he's being a scum.
I'm still not sure what he's thinking...

this is just another instance of a federal judge oversteping his bounds. this isn't a federal issue. it's well within the states scope to handle it, although i don't agree with how the state is handling it.
