Jobs created in September (http://www.msnbc.com/news/975375.asp?0cv=CA01)

The unemployment rate is the same, but finally some new jobs are being created. 57,000 of them, to be exact. Hopefully, this continues.

Yea, call me a conservative mouthpiece and Dittohead all you like HBox. I've heard people from both sides of the asile admit that this economic downturn started in the last 2 quarters of Clinton's term.

So it continued into Bush's term and he's dealing with it. Thank God we have a conservatice in office.

Look. I have no idea what is responsible for the reccession. But to call it the "Clinton/Gore" reccession places all the blame on them. What about 9/11? What about the corporate scandals? What about the war? What about the realities of economics that downturns are inevitable?

EDIT The reason I posted the Hannity pic is that, while I rarely watch or listen to him, every time I do I hear him spout that phrase so many times it loses all meaning.

You know, and I'm not picking on you Hbox, but I have been criticized at least once by you for being either a Hannity / Rush supporter or acolyte, and I'm willing to quite literally bet a pound of my flesh that you have listened to more Rush and Hannity than I EVER have or ever will.

Honestly, I have never listened to either on the radio. But I have seen far too much than I care to of Hannity on TV. If I could get out of the house more often, I'd see just about as much of him as I would like.

EVERYTIME I HEAR SOMEONE SAYING THAT THE SLUGGISH ECONOMY IS BUSH'S FAULT I REALIZE THAT MOST PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY DO NOT KNOW THE BASICS OF ECONOMICS IN A CAPITALIST SOCIETY. THE ECONOMY IS CYCLICAL AND HAS ITS UPS AND DOWNS. OUR ECONOMY IS BEGINNING TO GROW AGAIN, AND THESE THINGS DO TAKE TIME.

MUST...TURN OFF...CAPS LOCK...

There. That's much better.

I think presidents have little to no impact on the economy. I decided about a month ago that Bush must do at least 1 out of 3 things in order to be reelected. Either find the WMDs, prove a lock-down airtight motherfucker of an al-Qaeda-Saddam link, or bring back the economy. (And by bring back the economy, I mean if he happens to be sitting in the Oval Office when the economy comes back) If he can do any of those, he has another 4 years.

Well, that's not entirely true. Yes, our economic cycles are for the most "natural", they CAN be strengthened or weakened by the president. A president in power during a GOOD cycle tends to strengthen it whenever he speaks significantly on the economy...like when Clinton spoke or acted towards it the market traditionally rose a few points. When Bush does, it typically drops a few. Doesn't make the specualtion CORRECT, but the public perception at who's done what does effect how a president shifts the economy seemingly just by opening his mouth.

The economy is cyclical, but the national debt that his legacy will leave for future president's to deal with is not. Neither are his tax cuts that are just plain fucking retarded.

When I'm earning less money, I don't increase my fucking spending and decrease my income.

It's common sense.

irony

when things started to go bad with the Market companies would layoff to help keep profits up and satisfy shareholders or help keep the stock price up.

now this report comes out about a 'possible' turn in unemployment and companies may be beginning to start hiring again and the Market goes crazy to the positive side...

what the?

garbage man IS a pretty good job. I'd take it.

i'll never trust anything talking about unemployment rates going up or down because it's all nonesense. If you think that it is anyone's objective to lower unemployment rates than you've bought the bullshit. The stock market usually goes up when unemployment goes up. So basically, sad as it, our economy is doing better when more people are unemployed.

I don't understand this statement. I can think of examples where high unemployment may be a sign of a strong economy (during a strong economy, people are more likely to take financial risks, with usually fail) but generally, wouldn't high unemployment mean less money in the hands of comsumers, meaning less being bought by consumers?

Layoffs are good for the value of a company. It tells investors that less will be spent on labor. It's just a way of increasing profit. It raises the value of a company and therefore its stock value, which sends the market up. So, if you were to just judge our economy by the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which would be incredibly stupid, yes, layoffs do help the economy.

U.S. employers ADDED jobs in September for the first time in 8 months. (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=564&ncid=564&e=10&u=/nm/20031003/ts_nm/economy_dc_26)

Let's see, if we can get 3,000,000 or so more new jobs, then we can get back to where we were when Bush was elected.

To wipe out the Bush Deficit will require not only repealing all of his tax cuts, but coming up with new taxes, because the deficit he's run up has been increasing due to the interest.

So sad that the fiscal conservatives of the Republican Party are extinct.
Golly, it seemed like just yesterday that they were all parading for the cameras making solemn oaths to the citizens to restore fiscal sanity and accountability.
They were gonna "run the government like a business", remember?

And how about that (snicker) "Contract With America" that so many of them signed?

As for when the recession started? The experts say it started in March after Bush was elected and tomorrow evening I shall have a quote from Dumbya hisself saying so.
It wasn't untill the first round of tax cuts failed miserably to stimulate the economy as promised (just as the other 2 tax cuts have) that Bush-backers began looking for an excuse to hide behind and started this nonsense about the recession starting in the Clinton administration.

Oh, and since unemployment is the topic, Clinton came in with unemployment about 8% and cut it to under 4%.
His wise economic policies created 20 million jobs.

Too bad Bush isn't smart enough to just copy the Clinton Model for economic success.

C'mon, Bushniks, where are you hiding?

Is fiscal conservatism suddenly gone out of style?
Can any of you come up with $500,000,000,000.00 of budget cuts?
