This one may be more apporpriately for ask mike the teacher. i know the gasses in our atmosphere give the sky the color when they reflect the sun rays.
But i went outside about an hour ago to smoke. lookin at the sky it looked normal, light blue with a wisp of a cloud here and there. i turned and faced the building, and when i looked at the sky on that side of the building, it was dark blue.
i dont mean dark like its going to rain. i mean, no cloud within miles, they were all to the backside of me, and it was blue id say resembling dodger blue. ive never seen the sky this dark, especially on a nice day and i was wondering why it may have been darker

This is beginning to sound like a Lucky Charms commercial.
Either that or someone has been popping WAY too many pills.

This one may be more apporpriately for ask mike the teacher. i know the gasses in our atmosphere give the sky the color when they reflect the sun rays.
If there is one science that is misunderstood, it's atmospheric physics. Me included.
I have a few books, but it has been a struggle to explain simply these things. Reflection, refraction, the visible spectrum, angles of incidence, absorption, absorbtion, the nature of light, and a few others.
The atmospheric lighting we see is much, Much more complex then most would know. If you know the right places to look, you can see Sundogs, and other daylight rainbows. I'd say I can see one on 80% of days.
Whatever color the sky [or ANYthing you look at] is depends on what colors the sky is absorbing, and what colors the sky is reflecting.
Example; a Green Leaf. A green leaf is green because there is a chemical in it that absorbs red-orange-yellow-ish light and blueish light. The chemical Strongly reflects Green light. So when you look at a green leaf [or ANYthing that looks green] it is because it is absorbing non-green light, while reflecting green light.
So when the sky is dark dark blue? It's absorbing everything but the dark blues of the light spectrum. When, at sunset, the sky is brilliant reds, oranges, yellows, etc. it is absorbing the blues, while reflecting the reds, etc.
That's the tip of the iceberg.

Calvin: Why does the sky turn red as the sun sets?
Dad: That's all the oxygen in the atmosphere catching fire.
Calvin: Where does the sun go when it sets?
Dad: The sun sets in the west. In Arizona actually, near Flagstaff. That's why the rocks there are so red.
Calvin: Don't the people get burned up?
Dad: No, the sun goes out as it sets. That's why it's dark at night.
Calvin: Doesn't the sun crush the whole state as it lands?
Dad: Ha ha, of course not. Hold a quarter up. See, the sun's just about the same size.
Calvin: I thought I read that the sun was really big.
Dad: You can't believe everything you read, I'm afraid.
Calvin: So how does the sun rise in the East if it lands in Arizona every night?
Dad: Well, time for bed.

the dust in the atmosphere, (like cigarette smoke) appears blueish. You were seeing it darker blue today because it had the added humidity of all the water vapor in the air that rained on me when the warmer air mass over the land met the cooler air mass and it unloaded its moisture on me because I live on an island and the water around the islands specific heat is still cooler than the warm moist air in the atmosphere and when they met, it dropped its load on me and I got wet and I forgot that I wasnt suppose to post in here because of the boycott becuase my judgements off because Im drinking Grappa and I fucked up. Sorry
