waht's the saying?

"same shit, different day"

it's getting or has got to the point where the 'suprise and shock' has diminished and it's something that's expected. Unless it affects a relative or friend then it's hard to put anymore emotion into it.

No one disagrees that palestinian militant groups are savages.

I think the disagreement comes in when people just say palestinians are savages.

I just hope to be alive to see this end, though I doubt I will.

[color=purple]Not that killing the innocent can be made out to be any more evil that it already is, but I see that this occured in Haifa.

Haifia is sorta the San Francisco of Israel, in the sense that it's a very liberal city and Arabs & Jews there have found a way to live peacefully and prosperously with one another. I'm not at all sursprised that the business in question was jointly owned by both Jews & Arabs. The whole City is like that.

Most of israel looks at Haifia a dream of what could be. The Arab world looks at it as a nightmare.

If I sound biased, I am. Peace is there for the Palestinians to take. They just don't seem willing to take it. It's a sad situation. Shut up MoJo!!!

Bombing Haifa is nothing but scummy.

My friend Gil always planned to move back there with his family after college. Guess it's a "lucky" thing he didn't.

Blech.

At least the fucking animals didn't have a secondary bomb / bomber there to kill the rescue workers trying to tend to the wounded and dying - at least not this time.

Not to diminish this in any way, but look at it from a realistic point of view. If you are a devout Christian, a true believer, and God came to you and said, "I want you to lie/cheat/steal/kill in my name", chances are you would. This is the experience that these 'Palestinians' go through. Basically their Immam says to them that God (Allah) wants this. He demands this. I'm not saying it's right, but if God told you to do it, chances are you would.

The suicide bomber was a 23-year-old woman and indicated that she embarked on the attack in retaliation for the killings of relatives by Israel. The sources said she witnessed the killing in June of her brother and a second cousin, who had been targeted by Israel for what it calls involvement in Islamic Jihad activities.

Well, THAT sure fucking worked for both sides, didn't it?

What a sickening cycle.

This event is buried deep in the newspaper. The media does not want to call attention to the fact that Arabs kill Jews. However, should the Jews defend themselves and strategically target and kill actual terrorists, this makes the front page.

You will not find news of this homicide bombing mentioned on the radio. They feel they mentioned it at the top of the hour 2 times yesterday, and their obligation to report this has been fulfilled.

Hey, at least it proves Jews don't run the media, right?

Oh, look at that. It's still being reported on Headline News as of right now. I also saw it on the front pages of three seperate papers when I went and bought my coffee, so cut the shit. And of course, bunny's ignoring the sad fact that this is an all-too-common story these days. It simply ISN'T the biggest story of the day anymore because it happens so often. It's not even a case of some kind of bizarre, "anti-Jew, pro-Arab" agenda. And an Israeli strike gets about as much non-attention since again, like this, it's nothing new. As for op-ed pieces and public opinion? Well, that's not the NEWS, is it? You're mistaking the typical habits of the American media as an agenda.

I am so sick and tired of the media describing the suicide bombers as victims also. Are they out of their minds or just sympathetic to the terrorists? Probably a little bit of both

Yeah, that's it. So the media stereotype went from being that it's "too liberal in part because it's so pro-Jew (And supposed "Jewish Agendas")" to it's "too liberal because it's so ANTI-Jew".

MAKE UP YOUR FUCKING MINDS WITH YOUR BULLSHIT STEREOTYPES, PEOPLE.

So how the fuck does one newspaper equal "the media"? I'm sick to death of these lazy blanket accusations of some kind of retarded "bias". The New York Times can put the story wherever they want to. To be horribly blunt, IT'S NOT GUARENTEEED FRONT PAGE NEWS. Our media outlets are obligated to drop everything and stop the presses every time there's an Israeli suicide bombing? It doesn't make the event itself any less wrong or awful. It's just a sad but regular occurance at this point.

The lead story on Headline News right now is the Israeli raid into Syria and the taken of a terrorist weapons supply. It's not anywhere even close to being negative, and it's talking about how potentially damaging this strike is to local terrorists, including Islamic Jihad. It's not "pro-Arab" or "anti-Israeli". It's just the fucking news. I'm tried of people deciding something like, "oh, this hasn't been the top story long enough...BIAS!!! Oh, they used the word 'victim'...BIAS!!!" I just saw a story about a woman who killed two fmaily members and then herself...they said there were "three victims in a tragic murder/suicide today"...is THAT somehow "pro-Arab" bias since they call the murderer a "victim" there? News outlets tend to list all the people killed in an an event where multiple people die as "victims", including the attackers if they perish as well. Then they identify who the attacker was, as I saw again and again with the Hafia story in the 20+ times I saw it reported yesterday in the evening alone. "At least 20 people were killed in an terrorist bomb attack in Israel yesterday, including the female terrorist herself."

Come ON, people. The actual issues are getting more and more lost by bullshit focusing on media "biases" and "agendas" than on the issues and events themselves. How does THAT help anything? Nobody wants to focus on the actual issue...they just want to complain about who's picking on them today. Look how many threads here just sink into pissing matches over rhetoric as opposed to the whatever issues was at hand. As much as people complain, they seem to have NO problem actually being as ignorant as possible.

Look at this thread. How eager were people to switch the focus off the tragedy of the bombing itself to the news reporting OF the story? THAT is more than a little disturbing. The people that are crying loudest about the lack of attention and "balance" don't even seem to care anymore.

Everyone should be AWARE of the habits and tactics of the media. But this has seemingly crossed over to a common paranoia that's bordering absurd. "I didn't like the way they reported THIS story...so I'll never believe anything they print or report again!" "I didn't like that editorial...so I'm DAMNING this entire paper!" "I don't like the politics of this talk show host...so forget the rest of the network!" It would be laughable if it weren't so alarming.

Alright, I dislike and disagree with pretty much all of the talk show hosts on Fox News. But that doesn't mean I automatically dismiss the actually news reported on the network outside of the talk shows. Nor should anyone else. And vice-versa. ALL news is inherrently "biased" because it's researched, written and reported by people, and people have opinions and are emotional and prone to all of the failures that being human entails. It's to be expected, and should be aware of whenever someone watches the news, or researches ANYTHING. It's one thing to be aware of certain gimmicks or even "tricks" pretty much ALL media outlets try or engage in, whether on purpose or not...but to damn or dismiss and entire outlet or segment of outlets because of some imagined sinister conspiratorial-like bias like this is nothing short of foolish.

I'm looking at the front pages of both today's New York Times and the Washington Post and the bombing is right there on both of them. But Israel just attacked a site inside Syria, so maybe it's time to stop bickering and making shit up and start looking for the fucking facts for once because things are likely to get alot worse now.

I believe I used the word "source", implying that the "one newspaper" is part of the larger whole.

I also believe I referred quite specifically to the NY Times; I was not making a blanket statement about the media in general.

And it is my personal opinion (but one that is shared by many others) that the Times is, shall we say, UNDULY negative and critical in their attitude towards Israel in general.

I make no assertions about any other newspaper or media source.

Perhaps a joke you will appreciate, though:

So the Pope is visiting DC, and President Bush takes him sailing on the USS Sequoia, the old presidential yacht. They're talking about this and that, when, all of a sudden, the Pope's hat blows off his head and falls into the river. A Secret Service agent starts to call for an escort speedboat idling nearby to come around and pick it up, but the President just waves him off.
"I'll take care of this," says the President. He turns to the Pope and pats him on the shoulder. "Don't worry, I'll be back in a second."
The President vaults over the railing and lands on Potomac. Calmly, he straightens his jacket and walks over the water to the Holy Father's hat, bobbing in the waves. He leans down and picks it up, then walks back to the yacht and climbs up with the help of the stunned agent.
"Here you go," says the President, handing the flabbergasted Pope his hat.

The next morning, this little incident makes the front page of the New York Times. It's the top story of the day, with photos, commentary, and international reactions. The headline:

BUSH CAN'T SWIM

Meaning...what, exactly? Seriously, what are you trying to say?

And if that's in contrast to media outlets who generally offer little to no criticism of Israel, doesn't that actually contain some kind of skewed balance.

Basically, I'm not fully convinced this is automatically a "bad" thing, as that Israel seems to continually be a "special case" where any consistent and significant criticism of their policies and actions is automatically perceived as being some weird kind of wrong. If you're a person out there who thinks of it that way, you'll probably understand it like this...y'know how you think Rush quitting ESPN is a case of "PC" gone out of control? Well, it seems like Israel is a big ol' pile of PC all by itself.

I could answer, but I really don't want to open up this particular can of worms here. It's basically my opinion, and with all due respect to you, I don't feel like having to defend it against anyone else on the board who may feel the opposite way.

If you're a person out there who thinks of it that way, you'll probably understand it like this...y'know how you think Rush quitting ESPN is a case of "PC" gone out of control?

I actually don't feel that way.

I know you're not implying this - but the truth of the matter is that many of us conservatives don't really give a shit about Limbaugh. I know I don't.

They hired him knowing he would say or do something controversial, he did it, and everything else was overreaction on their part and on his. The only reason it got as much media exposure as it did was because he's a controversial figure and it was an otherwise slow news day.

I can see what you're saying about Israel, though, and do agree with it to some extent.

Mojopin, Yerdaddy - I guess you find it is still at the "top of the news" when you can quote it as having a fleeting mention on some obscure NPR crap or part of a 3-second montage of international news rebroadcast on Batchelor & Alexander.

So, it is just ho hum news to you; Arabs killing Jews happens so often and is so clearly repetitive that it does not warrant unbiased news coverage?

Analogy: If the Arabs would fly a plane into a different building in Manhattan and hundreds of other cities in the US every single day, slaughtering thousands day after day, week after week, do you Expect that the news media Should No Longer Report It???

The Arabs have achieved Great Success when intelectually malleable Americans such as you two have postulated that the killing of Jews is no longer newsworthy.

You're making things up.

It was the top story the day it happened and was on the front pages of the newspapers the next day. It didn't extend beyond that because, yes, sadly, it's NOT a unique story. It DOES happen far too often for it to be a continuing top story.

Analogy: If the Arabs would fly a plane into a different building in Manhattan and hundreds of other cities in the US every single day, slaughtering thousands day after day, week after week, do you Expect that the news media Should No Longer Report It???

Of course not. Your analogy is so far off base it's ridiculous. You expect the US media to react the same way to daily attacks on US soil killing thousands of people to suicide bombings in another country that happen every few weeks/months and typically kill a dozen people or less? Just stop trying, bunny. You're not "getting" anyone. By your logic, the US media should be in at least week-long mourning any time anyone in the world anywhere is killed under violent circumstances.
