Wow, I thought it was a Gimme that one of the great films of All Time, a Best Picture winner, that Featured the Song would be mentioned.

Manybe it's because it may be one of the most difficult movies to watch ever made:

The Deer Hunter

I don't know why, but this movie just destroys me. Like 'The Best Years of Our Lives' considered by many the greatest Movie ever put on a screen, it deals not with the war, but with ordinary people who are put into a literal hell on earth.

If you havent seen either of these movies, I BEG of you; hell I'll bring the DVDs to your door.

I'm dead serious, no student of Film and/or History can call themselves such without seeing these two films:

The Deer Hunter (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077416/maindetails)

The Best Years of our Lives (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0036868/)

<IMG SRC="http://members.aol.com/miketeachr/sigpic">

[Edit: Shit Steels, I de-railed the thread. Here's a couple of songs that I associate with many movies, let's see who knows their classical:

Gustav Holst 'The Planets: Mars; The Bringer of War'

ANY Springsteen [let the flames begin], but his stuff is not in many films, one that kicks ass, and the music has a tiny bit to do with the movie plot: Copland.]

(Wild Palms) You mean the almost 10 years old David Lynch miniseries? I remember it.

You'd think it was David Lynch because it was so similar to his Twin Peaks, but it was actually produced by Oliver Stone. Those were the two best shows ever on televison, tho.

You're kidding right? This has got to be one of the more widely used classical pieces in film and commercials! I just head it on the radio in a commercial last week, forget what for though.

After I went through the thread earlier I realized I am absolutely wrong here. I don't know why I thought the songs in question had to be "commonly" heard all of a sudden. Ironically I happen to relate "Adagio for Strings" far more to Platoon than "Tracks of my Tears".

Here's a few more "fat" pitches before I take the kid gloves off.

That movie rocked, the scene that that song was in is where they are in the bar at the beginning and start singing, if i am correct. Walken singing was classic.

There are many movies, but few Epics:

Gone With The Wind
Godfathers Parts 1 and 2

maybe a couple of others I can't think of [please, no bravehearts or gladiators here, I'm talking epics.]

And The Deer Hunter.

My God the first hour is almost entirely a Wedding! And the tensions of that wedding?

Yeah yea the russian roulette scene...

You want emotion? Watch the scene where Walken can do nothing but sit in the hospital and weep, that one destroys me, as does the final scene, the singing. Who says it's lame to cry? I'm tearing up now thinking about it!

PLEASE PLEASE rent this movie if you havent seen it. It is quite uncomfortable; and definately not for a group of people to kick back and watch; this is a film to be Seen, not Watched.

And Walken got one of the best-earned Oscars for his performance, IMHO.

What a terrifying Movie.
