Whatever happened to?

the t.v. show where they took normal people and let them be the detectives of a murder in a small town that was on the coast? In this show one person was voted or chosen to go out and get clues while the other one sat back at the house and gave directions. And also what was the name of this show?

I think you're talking about the show Murder in Small Town X. If I'm not mistaken the guy who won the contest on that show was a fire fighter or a cop and he ended up dying in the World Trade Center on 9/11. I think that pretty much killed the show.
