I dont know why anyone would immigrate there, especially if they were Jewish, but here is the source (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2003/10/21/wjew21.xml&sSheet=/news/2003/10/21/ixworld.html&secureRefresh=true&_requestid=40323)

Germany's Jewish population, already the fastest-growing in the world, is expected to
soar by a third in the next two years, the head of the country's Jewish community said
yesterday.

Paul Spiegel, leader of the Central Council of Jews, forecast that the there would be
around 130,000 Jews in Germany by 2005, and welcomed the increase as a sign that
Germany was "on the way to normality".

"Today we have 83 Jewish communities with 100,000 members and synagogues are
being built all around the country," Mr Spiegel said. "We could not have dreamt of this
when we returned after the Second World War."

Most Jewish immigrants to Germany arrive from countries in the former Soviet Union,
such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, where anti-Semitism is rife.

In 1950, following the devastation of the Holocaust, only 15,000 Jews lived in Germany
compared to 560,000 before Hitler came to power.

But since 1990 persecuted Jews from the former Soviet Union have been invited to live
and work in Germany, and it now has the third-largest Jewish community in Europe after
France and Britain.

The state offers arriving Jews generous benefits and the chance of higher education.
Applicants can have free German language lessons in their own countries while their
cases are considered.

But critics within the Jewish community have often accused the newcomers of "diluting"
the faith, citing the numbers who have never stepped foot in a synagogue. An illegal
trade in forged Jewish birth certificates has added to charges that many who arrive are
not Jews.

Mr Spiegel said many Jews chose Germany because they had to fight anti-Semitism in
their homelands.

"The thinking is that a country with the history that Germany has is unlikely to let
anti-Semitism become a danger again, so that is why they come to Germany," he said.

They are offered generous benefits and higher education in exchange for filming an "I love Berlin" commercial.

"The thinking is that a country with the history that Germany has is unlikely to let
anti-Semitism become a danger again, so that is why they come to Germany," he said.

12-17% of Germans polled in April 2003 believe that Israel was behind 9/11. That's out of 83,251,851 people.

That math is quite frightening.

Sadly, there are a LOT of morons in the world.

And, unfortunately, I'd bet you could find at LEAST an equal number of scumbags here or any other large country that would think the same thing.

Heck, between 45% and 55% of all Americans believe Saddam Hussein was behind 9/11. Stupid people are going to believe whatever their stupid brains tell them.

come on libby liberalton, you know that's not a true figure.

germany is all about reconciling their past, even if it goes against popular opinion. europe is still and has always been pretty anti-semetic and anti-semitism is growing in places like france, where arab populations are swelling.

come on libby liberalton, you know that's not a true figure.

Well, a recent Washington Post (BOOGA-BOOGA-BOOOOOO!!!) poll had it as high as approx. 68%, but I thought I'd go with the more common figures.

That's why France has the largest Jewish population in Europe?

Funny thing is, the Anti-Defamation League reports about the same rate of anti-semitic attacks in <a href="http://www.adl.org/PresRele/ASUS_12/4243_12.asp" target="_blank">America</a> as the State Department reports in <a href="http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/hrrpt/2002/18365.htm" target="_blank">France</a>. So is France held to a higher standard than the US? Both the State Dpt. and the ADL report that the US and French governments take the problems seriously and take appropriate steps to prevent and punish such attacks, ( <a href="http://www.adl.org/PresRele/ASInt_13/4256_13.asp" target="_blank">ADL</a> ). The State Dpt. also reports the same rise in anti-Arab and Muslim attacks in both the US and France. They attribute both categories of racist attacks to backlash after 9-11 and the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

So whatever you're trying to portray here, some reactionary "the sky is falling," French-bashing everybody hates Jews theory, the evidence doesn't seem to back you up. Sorry.

there are half a million jews in france; more than 5 million arabs in the same country. so what does that say when we have the largest jewish population and the same number of anti-semetic incidents.

my point was that germany's gov't is owning up to it's past, even though there is a decent opposition- and that's a good thing.

and yes, europe/ france are far more anti-semetic than the us. do you really think 60 yrs can erase centuries of resentment?

But according to these reports the rates of anti-semitic acts are roughly the same. In the US it is carried out by freaks like skinheads, black muslims, and fringe extremist left and right-wing groups. Does that make the US anti-semitic? No. France has the same freak groups that carry out the same racist attacks, and a higher percentage of Muslims, but the authorities and the general population does not tolerate it there any more than they do here. So your historical intertia theory doesn't hold up. If it were a general societal anti-semitism the rates would be much higher in France, and that's just not the case.

as far as I knew France was pretty anti-Semitic, and obviously I'm not a France-basher. That was one bad thing about France I've heard. They have an anti-Semitic party that wins a lot of elections. I guess there are facts going against it, but I know I have heard that about France.

my point was germany is making great strides.

So since Bush won the election, we're all Republicans here in America?

oh man I'm retarded for not getting that until 90 minutes later.

No, but I would say that we are a more right wing country than others, and I'd be right. Even if it's a slim majority, yes I would consider an anti-Semite winning national office as a show of support by a country for anti-Semitism.

But again, use us as a comparison. Less than half of this country votes, and less than half of those voters voted in Bush. So only half of less than half of all Americans are actually voting Republicans. So in any voting situation, you have to factor in how many people are even voting. And in France, most of these anti-Semite officials win small local offices. The majority (Not quite all, but almost) of national level offices are NOT occupied by anti-Semites. It's the equivalent of going by the election habits of the small deep south towns here in America to make assumptions about the country as a whole.

Also in France, you have organizations that turn out in protest when anti-semitism or racism rears it's ugly head.

MOJO is right about us being more right wing overall than others. Jaques Chirac is a right-winger.

He's also right about the extreme rightists who follow LePen mostly winning small local elections, except around Marseilles. Unfortunately, friends of mine over there tell me support for them is growing.
