Why is it cool to hate MTV?

I'm watching right now and it's not so bad. I'm learning about marriage and divorce on True Life. Then I can watch Newlyweds until TRL comes on. I like that "Hey Ya" video. :)

I hate Music Television because there's no more music on it. They throw us MTV 2 and expect every cable system in the world to catch up.

Their shows are stupid and their mix of music is pure feces.

MTV what's that? I only get 2,4,5,7,9,11,13. I don't have cable. And the tin foil on the antennas don't help getting quality pictures anymore.

Agreed. But what I find is that folks on the coasts - NY & LA - like just about every other topic - hate and complain the most about MTV and "no videos!" and awful shows.

But it's what in between that counts. Kids in the midwest eat that stuff up and give shows like The Newlyweds and Road Rules the large ratings. And that means more money. And that is all Viacom, MTV's owner, cares about.

The only real shows I see on MTV are the newlywed show and the real world shows, though I don't watch either with great regularity. I definitely don't go to MTV to watch music.

i enjoy MTV..i don't watch it for videos, but for the late night shows. i'm hooked on Fraternity Life, Real World, Road Rules and all of their challenges and my new favorite one with Jessica Simpson.

I'm so addicted to it.. whenever I'm bored and have nothing to do.. or if there's nothing on TV but reality shows on FOX.. i tune into MTV and watch "REAL WORLD" Marathons.. or the new "GAUNTLET" of past Real Worlders and Road Rulers..

TRL is way overrated...

Made is funny, but I never make time to watch it...

MTV stopped being "COOL" after they Ax'd Beavis & Butthead....

Definitely getting new MTV-Jays every season takes away from the unity of the channel.. (whatever that means)..

I like the idea of the show.. I like the dancing, but whose gonna dance like that in a club??.. there's no use to us "normal" folk, to watch this show.. except for entertainment purposes..

What about.. "Sorority Life" .. I think I got into it the first season, blah.. it was so cheesy..

Other than that.. the "Spankin New" videos they give at 4am are kewl.. (i think)

This week's Brandweek, an advertising magazine, named the MTV marketing team Marketers Of The Year. Here is an actual quote from one of the marketers: "Whether or not you like what TRL plays in the afternoon doesn't matter, so shut up. You're not 16 and living in Canada or Louisiana."

On top of that, if you are not part of a Nielsen family, you do not exist to the programmers of MTV (or any other television network for that matter).

Ratings = Money. It's that simple.

What started this and killed M2 and made it MTV2 was when MTV bought out The Box. With no other channel just playing videos, they feel they no longer have to maintain one of their own, apparently.

So now we can just remember the glory days of M2, no shows, just a few VJ's...just huge blocks of random videos from the last 25 years...

When I was in the hospital for four days last week, I watched Newlyweds and that Cheerleading camp Joe program. I found it somewhat amusing-- better than listening to the old lady down the hall scream, "get me out of here!" over and over and over. I actually like the Newlyweds show. Jessica Simpson cracks me up.

It's called One Bad Trip.

The episode will include a woman secretly following her fiancee to Las Vegas where he attends a strip club with his friends and gets a private lap dance.

Yeah thats part of a new Sunday on MTV with Punk'd, Wildboyz (Steve-O and another jackass) and Viva La Bam (Bam Margera and his family). I plan on watching two hour block.
