I'm new to this site, and really enjoy Ron & Fez. I'm from Florida, so I used to listen to Ron & Ron back in the old days. No one has ever been able to give me the reason the Ron & Ron show broke up. (For those of you who don't know, Fez was on that show too, just not one of the "named" guys. He did, among lots of things, this Nature Boy personality that was hilarious--wish he'd do it again sometime.)
Does anybody know what caused the break-up of R&R? I'm glad now, because we get Ron & Fez, but I've been dying to know the answer to this question for, literally, YEARS. Help?

This from the Ron and Fez Outpost website...
"Once upon a time there was a radio show syndicated throughout the southeastern United States. The show featured two jocks by the name of Ron: Ron Bennington and Ron Diaz. Along with sidekick Fez Whatley they made up the Ron & Ron Show. Diaz quit the show in early 1997. He was replaced by Ronnie Hayes. The show was cancelled later that year. In August 1998 the show returned to Daytona as the Ron & Fez show. Then in February 2000, Ron & Fez got called up to the big leagues. They now host the Ron & Fez show evenings out of Washington DC. "

But why did Ron quit? Didn't Ron and Ron get along...or Ron left to pursue other interest?

As far as I can recall there was an on-air blow up between Ron and Ron Diaz. There is a sound clip of the fight somewhere on the internet, I forget where though.

Man, that is hard to believe--the whole team down there certainly appeared to get along well, and the show was a HUGE success--there is story after story after story about those guys (ron, ron, fez, billy the phone freak, Paul O, etc). The live remotes they did in Ybor city were ridiculously great...

I have NO idea--you can hear Fez trying to keep it light in the beginning, and then all hell breaks loose. I guess Ron Diaz decided he wanted to try something new?? (Still hard for me to believe. That show was HUGE. People didn't want to listen to anybody else, including Stern.)
All I know is that I lived in Tampa again from 1999-2001, and, no matter what you hear, Diaz's show SUCKS now in Tampa. He works for a classic rock station, and he's back to typical morning DJ stuff: play a couple songs, make a couple lame jokes, play some more songs. He definitely got the short end of the stick by leaving, and, judging by the clip, Ron & Fez got the continued success they deserved after Diaz left. Good for them.

You certainly can choose not to believe me, but it really isn't b.s. You can read posts today where people in the southeast are STILL begging for the return of that show, and it is 2003! Stern wasn't even on in most markets in Florida when the R&R show was in its prime--remember we're talking late 80's/early 90's when the show was really crazy down there.

Actually i was being sarcastic about Stern. I don't doubt his ratings, I just can't stand his show. I used to listen to his shows years before the books and movies and tv shows when he was interested in making good comedy on the radio. It has been many years since he was that funny though.
