O&A Chant Gets Plug Pulled On R&F NYC Remote -
10/26 - DCRTV hears that Ron and Fez's remote broadcast from NYC's Hard Rock Cafe Friday evening was cut short. The last hour or so of the four-hour show was a "best of" rerun. An announcement on WJFK-FM's airwaves said it was due to "technical difficulties." But, in reality, we're told, Anthony Cumia showed up at the event. And the crowd repeatedly chanted "O and A." The Opie and Anthony radio duo just got JFK's owner Infinity hit with $357,500 worth of fines for that August 2002 sex in a church stunt. And a threat from the FCC that if it happens again a station licence will get yanked. Cumia and his radio partner Gregg "Opie" Hughes are still under contract to Infinity even though they lost their NYC-based PM drive show, which was heard on JFK. Apparently, Cumia "didn't say a word anywhere near a microphone," but it was all too much for Infinity's suits and legal eagles to bear. We hear that some heads could be rolling at JFK over this one.....
And then this in the "Rant" column:
Setting the record straight. DCRTV Dave went on El Jefe's WJFK-FM show a week ago Saturday. Station mates Ron and Fez said on the air the following Monday that El Jefe's show had been cancelled. DCRTV ran a newsblurb reporting what they said. We immediately sent an e-mail to El Jefe asking for his comment. El Jefe did not, repeat, did not respond to our inquiry. Several reliable WJFK sources then told us that the story about El Jefe being canned was a "comedy bit." But since we couldn't confirm anything, either way, we removed the El Jefe newsblurb. El Jefe did not do his show this Saturday but told the substitute host by phone that DCRTV got the story wrong and that his show wasn't cancelled, and that he will be back next Saturday. Hey, Alex Hinojosa (aka El Jefe), you know how to reach DCRTV, when you want to....
