I 'm not that sure...at first glance the bear...but old McGruff...looks a hell of a lot like a cop and he may be packing a gun...that would be bad for old pyromaniac bear boy...huh...well the "Mc" in McGruff also hints to an IRISH ethnicity...which means he probably has had a few and his temper may flare up to insane levels... I go with the Irish Gun Loving Detective...

However McGruff's Trenchcoat and hat might enable him to hide things up his sleeve quite easily. And, let's face it, he's a seasoned veteran of a cop. He's seen horror in its face, he's a detective (I think) and he knows what death looks like. Smokey just sees dead trees.

Smokey carries a shovel - he may be a serial killer -

I understand the concept that the shovel is for throwing dirt on a fire...but..c'mon...a friggin' forrest fire!! You may be able to put a campfire out with a shovel of dirt but look at calif...I bet he's really making a dent out there...right!

So... The serial killer theory works...I think he may carry that thing to bury the various hikers he kills after he finds that they throw cigarettes into the woods. If he is a serial killer the odds may be evening out...McGruff better be a good shot with his cop gun...because if not..BONK!CLANK!PLINK!...old mr crime dog's gonna have a one hell of a headache...

I heard McGruff's been on the take ever since the "Users are Losers" campaign went downhill and rumor has it that he himself has now become a User... I don't think a crooked cop that's hooked on smack is going to take down a grizzly.
