View Full Version : Who's voting Tuesday?
There are elections Tuesday. In NJ we are just having local elections (state senate, assembly, and town officials). Not many people vote in these elections, so who here will actually vote?
The theme of the elections this year in NJ is corruption. The state senate leader is one of the biggest culprits, and is in serious jeopardy of losing this election season after being in office for 30 years. The governor is also extremely unpopular, giving the Republicans an advantage in this mostly Democratic state. I nearly spit soda all over my television every time I see a commercial from a Republican who says they are fighting our Democratic governor for more money for education and Medicare.
What are the themes for the elections going on in NY, DC, or wherever the hell you are?

We have basically just town assembly here, and I think there might be some state positions. I dont really even care about those, because I know more about NY than CT.

I always vote as well, even for relatively minor local elections. It's my civic duty. And I'm of the opinion that a person really doesn't have a right to bitch and moan about their elected leaders - ANY elected leaders - if they themselves are too lazy to go out there and involve themselves in the voting process to begin with.
I don't vote along party lines, especially in local elections, but I do plan to vote for one Republican in particular this time around, simply because I know the Democrat she's running against and he's a corrupt asshole.

I always vote, I'll definitely again this Tuesday, and if there's any race of national interest then I'll probably check it out Tuesday night on MSNBC, Fox News and CNN for the returns.
Aside from the California governors race is there really any hotly contested races this year? In either the house or senate?

I'm accually kind of annoyed that my parents wont vote for who I want. For example, my mother doesnt vote in the primaries, doesnt make you a bad person... but I do my homework, I know who I want, so I dont see any problem with her casting my vote, instead of wasting it.

Hopefully I can vote against a Kennedy. Several if I'm lucky.
I vote Republican but will vote for a competent Democrat. Daniel Patrick Moynahan always got my vote.

I don't vote, and unless something drastic happens to me that changes my mind I will continue not to vote. However, if I did vote I'd see myself voting in these "smaller" elections rather than the big presidental election.

yeah I honestly could care less about such small elections. I guess the local offices just don't seem important to me at 18 years old. I haven't really felt an effect from who's serving in the State Assembly. But still, I might vote. I know enough to probably be able to make a competent choice
Not only is it my civic duty but I can come in late to work.

I know it may sound corny, but I vote because everytime election day comes around I start thinking about the same things. How it's our special right in a democracy to vote. How so many died to preserve out rights. How a representative government sets us apart from dictatorships.
I think about all these things and it motivates me to go and vote for 3 local county seats that I may have never even heard one word about until that day. It motivates me to actually READ the reforendums and other proposals, honestly consider them, and vote for or against them.

I just voted a few minutes ago. Republican for state and count seats. And independant for the town spots. My local gov't is a mess. Voted yes to preserve open land and farms.

I couldn't agree more with you. I have one friend he is one of the smartest people I know, but he tries too hard to be all bitchy about how the gov't is so corrupt and stupid, but he NEVER votes, so I refuse to talk politics with him until he's willing to put his money where his mouth is and vote.
I'm a registered Republican, but I don't always vote along party lines. My favorite part of the voting day is I vote at an elementary school where they always have an election day bake sale. <3 homemade cupcakes! ;)

I never consider myself educated enough on the individuals running to vote. Infact I think you should have have to pass a test in order to vote. I dont waste my time personnally. Even if I knew a lot about the candidates, whatever their policies are will probally change after he/she gets elected, like liars usually do.

Well, I voted.
And I'm proud to say that I did NOT vote along party lines. Plenty of folks on both sides got my support.
Who says I can't be a moderate?
Infact I think you should have have to pass a test in order to vote.
They used to do that.
It was deemed unconstitutional, and rightly so.

Did anybody see the results from the Philadelphia Mayor's race? For those who don't know, it was a very tight race until about a month ago when a bug was found in Mayor Street's office. It turned out federal investigators put it there. Street spinned it as a plot by Republicans to try and steal the election. The result? Street won re-election tonight 59%-41%.

Kind of a shame Street won, considering how awful most everyone seems to say he is (apparently 8% of the city LEFT under his administration). Hey, though, if he is that bad - they're getting what they deserve.
