A couple of days ago, i took myself off of Zoloft. I knew there would be withdrawal effects if i did it too fast, so i had been planning it for about a month, and started weaning myself off of it gradually, over the course of about that month. So, Tuesday night i stopped it complete, and on Thursday, i woke up, and after taking a shower, as i got out, i got, all of a sudden, a big dizzy spell. It continued infrequently throughout the day. By Friday, it started to get more frequent in the dizzy spells, and i noticed that not only did i get dizzy, but it effected my eyesight for a second, and sort of reverberated through all my muscles. Now today, its gotten a bit more frequent, and i've noticed that it happens more often if i'm standing up or moreso if i'm walking. i am also getting more spots of lights in my eyes, it used to just come on the corners of my eyes, but on Friday i started to get them in the central vision areas, not just the corners.
So, what i want to know, is if this is some kind of withdrawal effect from Zoloft, even though i did try weaning myself off gradually, or if this is something more serious.

Give me something real. Give me back those years. Give me peace of mind. Give me something more.

What did the person prescribing the Meds say?

If they do not know, this is quite dangerous.

This is not the place for lofty help from those who do not know. Like me.

This is for the experts.

You are titrating an SSRI that has a long half-life.

Dont understand that? Expert time.

I've been on and off SSRIs for about 8 years, and I've done my homework on the drugs. You need to see a doctor.

This is most definately not the place to seek medical advice. My best medical advice would be to seek professional help (Dr.)- Immediately!!!!!

The symptoms you describe are quite common when coming off an anti-depressant. You do need to see a doctor ASAP. The only problem is that so many docs either deny or don't realize that these strange withdrawal symptoms even exist. If your regular doc seems unfazed, get a second opinion.

About 10 years ago I was prescribed an anti-depressant. Cant remember what it was, but soon started having it, loud sudden sounds would cause me to lose my balance.

I'd be jogging, and a car would backfire, and my legs would turn to jelly for a second or two.

Weirdest thing in the world.

Lesson: Even among SSRI's there are big differences. Each of our body-mind chemistries are gonna react differently. This is one for lab coats.

You should never ween yourself off of any anti-depressant without a doctor's supervision. Hell, get the "zaps" if I'm a few hours late taking Effexor!

Why would you want to go off your meds?

I thought drug advice was kinda taboo on this board nowadays.

Anyway, I think the best Zoloft advice was in one of Fluff's old sigs. If only he'd post it...

When I got off Effexor, the same "zaps" would happen to me, inclucing the dizzyness described elsewhere. But in my case, I just thought it was normal withdrawal and let it happend and eventually it went away on its own (it took maybe a week) I attributed it to a smoker who quits getting the shakes and the pangs of desire. I think these drugs are all kind of addictive, but Id see your doctor if your dizzyness messes you up too bad that your likely to fall down or crash or something.

Almost 3 weeks ago i went to the doc. and explained to him all of it. He went about doing a few cursory tests, seeing about any neurological things, which he came up as neg. So, he tells me its probably because of the Zoloft, and i should just go back taking it, but i could do it at 12.5mgs and within a week i would be fine. Anyway, almost 3 weeks later and i still feel about the same. i'm going to another dr. on Monday, but i don't know what else it could be. But hell, at least i haven't had to go to work since it started.

The harder you try to break me, the harder i push on.
Doubt me, hate me. You're the inspiration i need.
