View Full Version : just a lunar eclipse?

my hippy friend from dc sent this out. despite its tree hugging, dirt worshiping nature i thought this was kind of creepy.
message as follows:
many of you know what's going down tomorrow...for those who don't...there will be a complete lunar eclipse...best seen on the east coast. but it goes deeper than that...which is the part many of you may not know...
tomorrow there will be a planetary alginment, forming a grand sextile pattern...a planetary star of david. this formation will produce a sublime balance of energy. this event has been studied & anticipated for many years by metaphysicians, astrologists, and spiritual seekers. many ceremonies have been planned at sacred locations throughout the world...including the u.s. i suggest though, that if you can't make it to one of these locations...you still take on an understanding, realization, acceptance & participation of the event about to be unfolded unto us. the time pointed to the grand sextile/lunar eclipse is 1:29 am, sunday nov.9 greenwich mean time...or 8:33 pm, saturday nov 8th eastern standard time.
if utilized correctly, this moment may awaken many souls...may lift them to the next dimension in their lives...contributing to the greater energy (and good) of our world, our existance, our connection with all in life. don't let it scare you...you don't need to be a spiritual leader to feel this. hell, you don't even need to know how to meditate...what you do need is an open mind...let your heart be open to this & the rest will happen. many people will be engaged in prayer, meditation, dance, chant...their means to connection. but all you really need to be is knowing & open.
i ask any of you who are hearing this info for the first time to read into it today. then, join us as we combine our energies on a such a mass level...many of human kind...lifting their energies, the planets lifting their energies, all of life lifting it's energy....it's gonna be massive.
end transmission......
kids...this is what happens when you spend to many years on tour, eating mushrooms.

Didn't something like this happen in the 80's? Total planetary alignment, or something like that?

No, in the '80's, it was a Total Eclipse of The Heart.

Well, if its visible; and the weather here in NJ looks Real Good; i'll be posting photos of it in almost real-time.
This one takes a while folks, you can see a bit of the moon enter the pnumbra and umbra, go have a cocktail; come out and notice a bit more of the moon has been eaten away... good times!
And why the blood red? Well, the line up isnt perfect [it never is; and as to those planetary line-ups? they werent] so while it fully enters the umbra, its a glancing blow; hence it will be a lot of pnumbral light; where its semi-shadow, and the results may be quite nice.
PS: Mars is still awesomely visible, just look for the bright red star which seems to twinkle less then the others. There it is.
It's also nearing Leonids time; great chance of seeing a few shooting stars, and satellites and UFOs and stuff...

What do you mean by "glancing blow"? I don't actually know if in this case the moon is going to fully enter the earth's umbra (that's a fancy word for shadow), but either way, the moon looks red because a lot of light is scattered by particles in space. It gets bounced and reflected around and finds its way back to the moon - as you said, it can be caused by penumbral light (the penumbra is the edge of a shawdow where the light is imperfectly blocked by an object. Hold your hand up to a wall and see how the edges of the shadow aren't perfect crisp sharp lines. It will work better if you don't hold your hand directly up to the wall, so that the light from behind it that's hitting its edges will have room to scatter adequately for you to see it), although, a lot of the light that is causing the moon to be red is not actually coming from light bounced off the Earth's edges so technically I'm not sure that it is strictly correct to call it penumbral light. Either way, it's a similar concept to when a sunset looks red because the sun's light is being scattered by all the particles in our atmophere.

It was cool, I was out looking at it getting "eaten away" and Im thinking...Im looking at the moon, being illuminated by the sun, behind us, seeings its surface lit up and the light reflected back at us as it passes into our shadow and the dust in our own atmosphere, projected on the moons face, reflected back redish at us as described so eloquently above! Im glad it was such a clear night.
