What are these people thinking about??? I'll never understand who in their right minds authorizes this crap. And, why he still has a job?

AND, can't we get past Thanksgiving before stupid Christmas music is played on the radio.

beyond belief .... these songs will be played so much, they'll lose any meaning or signficance

holiday songs capture or represent yuletide memories, placing them in a heavy rotation for eight weeks will render them to the base level of a banal pop hit ....

I found out when I stopped by Starbucks and heard them playing holiday music. I told them I thought it was just too soon to start playing xmas tunes and they said that it had just switched over and they were about to change the station because they felt the same way.

Maybe Steve C. can sneak on Ziggy singing 'Silent Night', Christmas just isn't the same without it.

Seriously Mike, this is a great idea. And bring back Scottso and some of the other classic jocks. R&F would fit right in. They were never "shock jocks", or did "stunts", were team players, never went to war with another show, never tried to sabotage the station. But because it makes sense, the odds are against it, of course.

Someone get me Mel Karmisin on the phone! Stat!

It is sad that a radio station has gone through Five format changes in five years. Follow me here:

It was its classic rock format until Sept. 7, 1999

Talk format Sept 7, 1999 to Feb 2003

"Blink" from Feb 2003 to August 2003

"Woman Music" August 2003 to Nov 2003

"X-Mas Music" Nov 2003 to ??

It is sad, just sad what WNEW has become. I would accept a spanish station over what WNEW has become. Although I wonder if there is any correlation between this new format and the fact that O and A's contract is up soon...One can only wish this holiday season.

So WNEW is serious about winning the "Christmas Music" war. Hurray.

It's time for Infinity to sell this station. Corporate ownership of multiple stations in a market has been a disaster (and I'm no liberal).

Richard Neer was telling some caller this morning that Blink went all Christmas music because another NY station was going to start that after Thanksgiving and they wanted to beat them to it. The feeling here is that stores will play this music until Christmas and forget to change the station, and everyone will hear the new improved (yet again) BLINK.

Who comes up with this shit???

The more I think about it... the more this is brilliant.

I related a story on a radio message board on how I was shopping and there was a bunch of housewives talking about how nice it was to hear Christmas music. They were all listening to Blink.

Now, bear with me here.

102.7 comes before 106.7. So if you're scanning on the dial... and hit Christmas music... you're gonna stop there.

A BUNCH of stations, not just in NYC, flipped to Christmas music this week. This includes Philly.

Doing Christmas music now allows them to get away from the Blink name... and still try to establish a foothold.

It's a good move.

For the record, Blink has been through five formats THIS YEAR.

1) Hot Talk
2) Jockless Top 40 (January-April)
3) Blink Version 1.0 (Kingston-run Gossip Top 40)
4) Blink Version 2.0 (Post-Kingston Hot AC)
5) Christmas

For those that have braved it and put on those stations, have they played that "Christmas Shoes" song?

If there was any song you want to use to clear out a Christmas Party, that's the song.

I have not heard the christmas shoes song since that year it came out. May it rot in hell.

It's also ponderous that 102.7 is one of the only stations that doesn't come in clearly on my FM dial (despite the fact that I am out of the broadcast area, I usually get all of the stations with minimal static). Fucking ponderous.
